If there is a BIOS update, then go ahead and install the latest BIOS update first

You should look into the product support for this drive first. There is also a firmware update for it.

Try with a different SSD, if the other SSD can be detected, that means your Intel SSD is incompatible with your ThinkPad T420

hmm, then i not sure what else. this is issue from intel and you need to update the ssd firmware according to the article.

it doesnt say you need to update the bios. ive not come accross any machine that needs bios update to be able to load a sata drive.
in this case the problem comes from the ssd and not the mobo.

plug that ssd into a pc that can load the ssd, and update the ssd firmware.

if you done that stil cannot then nothing can be done.

i think you are confusing it with something.

the firmware update of the ssd is independent of the OS and system, as the ssd has its own memory to store it.

the bootable firmware is so that you can use it on the affected system without access to secondary PC.

since you have a secondary pc, you should use that with the ssd to update the firmware and then plug that back into the affected system after it is done updating. since on secondary pc it can be detected fine and loaded fine, you dont need to use the bootable version but use the windows exe version.

i know but it's not working
look like the firmware design to boot with t420 only

if i boot the firmware cd with t420, it can boot
but if use lenovo g405 (my wife nbook), unable to boot, straight logon to windows

if i execute the exe firmware file in windows, no drives were found
Attached Image

how come not found coz it's running in g405 with windows installed on it

that is probably the weirdest compatibility issue ive ever seen. i guess you are right the firmware is designed to only work on t420.
