Are you serious? That's a good money wei~ You inspecting what for O&G company? Where do you get the equipment or license to do inspection? Why dont continue your freelance? And in the contract, got term and condition like, you cannot work for the competitor of the company, existing client or post client for a period of time? i am very curious to know about these. yeah i m serious. this is some part of QA/QC job.. the equipment will be suppllied by your company but if ur have ur own tool u can demand higher. the most important thing u must have cert in specific inspection job, the more cert u have the more valuable u are.
once u involved in one project u cannot work with other company in that duration thats all.
the reason i leave?? i just take my current job as a insurance for my future this is my friend company and he ask me to help. so cant demand high pay. but i can leave whenever i want and comeback when i dont have a job. also my gf already curious how i spend my money... haha..

woo..... serious sh!t~ You can afford those equipment ah? Freaking expensive!!! But for you to get the cert, how long does it take to get until certain level? (i assume there are few level and they are in-house certificate right?) Those cert recognize by other companies? I really curious big time here. But atleast good lar, you got friend company to work for, but it is not an easy thing as you need to go to client there all by yourself right? (I assume the company did not arrange things for you like those logistic thingy). Money, is it hard to save it because of your style of working, life style or some other influence things? Curious here, need to know from "old horse", and "senior"

your agent will supply the equipment, just basic flaw detector cost more than 50k are u crazy to buy it urself?? but if u can afford it for sure u can get pay more than that. but better u take multiple cert coz the demand will be higher. more easier to join the client side. so u can work easier.
Yeah quite hard if the bos is your friend. but the good thing is i dont need to travel frequently. summore my family also around here so i still have some respect with them.
my cert have 3 level low, medium, high.. i only have medium level. but i covered it by another few certification method.

to join inspection side u should take certificate in few catagory at least, try go take weld+ndt certificate with certification institute like PCN/CSWIP. But it doesnt come cheap

How did you got few cert as you say it is expensive, previous company sponsor? Actually those cert will cost you how much? let say the average one.
If the cert come out from company as in-house cert, will they be recognize by outside? let say the company is well known throughout the whole world as in their technologies and reputation, consider on top of the industry.

if compare to salary..of course the QA/QC engineer much2 more higher...but what if in the future?

my thinking is that...while im still young (now 24) i want to get a job with higher salary...doesnt matter if they send me to oil rig...on ship...then after maybe 2 - 3 years....i have saving a lot of money..retired and do investment or business...
but it is a risky way....i have to sacrifice my life...my experience to learn structure engineering.

talk about salary..average structure engineer can have rm5k + OT around age 30...if jump to other company..maybe can get higher...
for engineer around 15 years experience could get rm15K-20k + OT .that is scenario for my consultant oil n gas company .

so...should i stay...or leave?

two of the certificates is sponsored by my previous company with a 2 years bond the rest is using my own money. each certificate cost around 10k but now i think is more cheaper coz got a few institute offered the course. you go google at TWI-SEA, now they're offer certification in malaysia. last time u need to attend course at UK. the best cert is ASNT level III but the requirement quite hard.
I didnt take any in-house certificates. All cert is personal one but sometime got sponsor from my agent.

u Should already know izzit, i see u already have some exposure to this work nature. So if u in this industries try go chatting with your site client inspector asking how much they got the pay. dont ask ur maincont at most they got only 6-7k permonth. and learn from them how to be succesfull. thats how i learn.

actually as aengineer u will have more knowledge and your future is more brighter, just need to be patient. as ur pay will not sharply increase by year.
inspection level salary will go up and down by their market. or maybe u will loose ur job if your reputation is not good.

thanks bro for the advice, appreciated it a lot. Of course i wouldnt ask things from maincont, they are my client and need to keep the reputation of my company. If got the chance, i will try to social around with the contractors. I consider myself doing ndt also, mostly MFL. Your NDT is mostly on what object? or it can cover most of the objects? Reputation need time to build and it is not easy for ppl to recognize me as i like a new born baby in the industry.

just to share somehing here, i'm just graduate last year july 07,25years old, get job a nov 07, this month salary about to reach RM4500, position marketing exec. if you ask possible ? sure it is possible, but u may need to work very hard and tough, working 6.5 days, the rest of the time still working for volunteer, no complain and learn with possitive attitute, and dun mind to start from the lowest position, that's my tips.

Wah ur allowance so high, RM100 /day! u doing support? how is ur basic much?

MFL only use in pipeline industries izzit?? Where u take the certification? I Think is almost the same principles with Magnetic Particle Test.
i m certified in almost any ndt method (metal) except eddy current testing. additional cert in welding inspector and Authorize piping Inspector. i'm planning to take the asnt level iii by the end of this year. Currently hibernating in this company preparing QA/QC Procedure for some project. i'm looking forward to work oversea only at this moment.

I also not sure what MFL can use for some more, but for sure i in direct contact with very strong magnetic field now. Certificate is from in-house only, not from outside institute. But why dont you take the eddy current cert? Anyhow do you inspect underwater welding?
Haiz~ this wednesday going to PTT, thailand. Dunno how will the thing goes. Currently your project mostly base in west or east of malaysia?

i alwis wonder this 5k tread meaning to ur basic salary or overall income(include commision, claims, allowance & etc)
If abt basic, i doubt that so many youngster can get Rm5k. i believe this 5k post in this tread is adding all the miscellaneous to get total RM5k.....
Let say abt myself. I getting basic Rm3k. My job travelling around. So my monthly reimbursement(mileage,allowance) will abt Rm1.2k(sometimes 2k, 1.8k & etc which not fix).IN this case can i classified myself earning RM5k???????

This thread mostly talk about O&G only. Only O&G got possibility to hit the 5k target isit? What about the other jobs?

I think the monthly salary should be the actual money going in your pocket where you work as employee.

Those mileage claim or credit card claim (which you pay first then claim from finance), should not be included since thats your own money.

But if the actual cost you spend is RM100 but you go claim RM200 then the extra RM100 should consider inside your salary. (You are bad dude )

And those side income (MLM, investment, rental) should not included since this thread said monthly "Salary", not monthly income (none work related not included)

Ah don't know when i got chance to jump to SAP team, heard the one work as SAP consultant (contract basis), earning RM1k per day, my god......

oh i see. i dont see why should i take the edt, normally i only seen this kind of inspection during plant shutdown to inspect the boiler tube only. the pay also not very high. to inspect underwater u need another class U (eg 3.1U, 3.2U) certification unfortunately i dont have. this company just starting doing pipeline project mostly cover west malaysia. Previously this company only done mechanical and servicing job for petrochemical plant.
Since i join this company we open a new piping/pipeline division and completed 3 pipeline project, basically we're still learning as a new contractor.

ohhh.... you are pipeline manufacturer, i think i suppose the person to say how is the quality of the pipeline We might be meeting each other some day.
