QUOTE(enkadirmainbola @ Nov 2 2007, 04:18 PM)
I can attest that my work offshore does not include 'amusing' my male colleagues. I pull as much weight as anybody else out there.  mad.gif

But yes.. I've only mentioned the academic qualifications so far.. you must be a team player but also be capable to lead a crew.. must posses excellent communication skills since you will be working in a multinational environment.  While on the job I must be able to understand whatever it is that I am required to do when given the instructions... a misunderstanding can cost potentially millions of dollars in lost production time, revenue and equipment.  Believe me the working environment is noisy as hell, hazardous and there's plenty of distractions.. often times I can't even hear what my supervisor is asking me to do above all the noise.. you might have radio/walkie talkie but interference is almost always there and you end up listening so some garbled mess.

in this case, it really cut my interest to work in O&G industry. better for me to be a planner. working in the office most of the time. constantly expose to 100-120db of noise will make u deaf at anytime sweat.gif

Haha.. It's not all that bad though.. after 5 weeks offshore I also have to work in the office for a few weeks.... I'm just not cut out for a regular 9-5 office job. Tried it with Sony and lasted only 2 weeks!

Plus for me - tons of fine male specimens to toggle at...mat salleh ada, mat gelap ada, mat body mantap ada juga.. tongue.gif

who say no women offshore eh??

there are some.....and our platform has 2 lady full time operators on board. no problem...

oh yes, they are the pioneer lady operation technicians. so dont look down of your platform operator..especially the ones in Central Luconia. we have worked hard as much as the mens also to ensure safe delivery of gas everytime!

no offence, but the males here rather uneasy to find a lady boss/engineers around coz of ther 'bising' mouth....

Heya,

Yur in the O&G eh, are you based in Malaysia? I'm working abroad but not offshore. Just find it kinda rare to bump into someone in the same industry in this forum. Even outside. U're on a 5/5 rotation?

I am currently a 4th year uni student. Majoring in Mech Eng... A uni which sucks the good ol money outta your pockets.

Its sad that my situation atm is pretty bad financially, and I plan to do my internship this coming december. Its tough and I havent been getting much response from my applications. I want to earn some money after my internship so I can continue with my studies.

Bear in mind that I've already used my ptptn and bank loan. Currently am short for the remaining semesters. Unfortunately the way I see it, 4th year Mech Eng undergrad looking for job means impossible. Unless there are some advices I can get from here. Would the company I do my intership with consider hiring me without a completed degree?

U just have to look around, companies DO offer internship for non complete degree holder, thats the idea of internship. Don't expect 2K a month though. Most internships pay like 600++ depending on place. Hunt around in industrial areas and MNC.

it's not he wants 2k/moth for his internship.. he said, after he complete the internship program, can the company consider him to be their staff..

to kelvinftg,

what do u mean by earn money after your internship?? does that mean u dont want to continue your study and working for that company permanently??

Below are the possible factors will affect your salary:

1. Job Area
2. Company Industry - Oil & Gas higher, Banking Industry good bonus, IT industry work late.
3. Locations - SG, KL better, If you work at Kelantan might be not so good.
4. Experiences, Skill set: IT line: Most of .NET/Java programmer get higher salary than Ruby/PHP (open source) programmer.
Sales people: your past experience, earn how much for your companies through sales.. etc.
5. Qualification - for fresh graduate education tend to be important, diploma, bachelor degree, Master -> all make differents.
6. Type of company: MNC, china man company, local company, oversea company, home solo business.
7. Languages: Know good English will make different if you are working at MNC or company that required English for their business, For china man company who have business in china of course Chinese Languages tend to be more important.
8. Your interview: Good interview will make different.

BenQ penang also is a good place to consider for internship...BenQ pays basic rm500 and OT....sony also same with BenQ....if u r hardworking during the internship, always do OT, u can get rm1200/month....
