Exactly true. This is a place for people to share their opinions and discuss about things.

If one doesn't like about other's post, just ignore and there's no point putting up offensive comments.

When will our forums have a better quality? Year 2020? smile.gif

may i ask? project managers in petronas earns how much? can anyone pls let me know?

It is so subjective and in big companies, there's always a salary range. For example, a PM can earn between 8K-10K and it depends on a lot of factors.

What kinda factors?

Years of experience?
Value of projects handled ?

Years of experience is definitely a factor and your current pay is also another one when you jump jobs.

First example - Company A wants to hire a project manager and financially budgeted around RM10K. After interviewing, there are 2 candidates which will be offered - one which is earning RM6K now and the other RM8K.

Although both of them requested for 10K, the HR would not offer a 4K jump for the guy that currently earns 6K (unless we talk about exception cases). That is the reason why there is a range, etc.

Another example - You start working as a junior engineer for RM2K and eventually promoted to senior engineer. You get a reasonable promotion increment, let's say 10%-15% and yearly increment is approximately 5%-7%. After 5 years of working, you're promoted to Project Manager. Unfortunately, they won't give you a 4K increase and make you level up with the newly hired PM's earning 10K / month.

Generally, this is what which normally happens. Nevertheless, there are always exception in all cases smile.gif

With regards to your 2nd example, this person after 5 years will only be earning around 3K though he has been promoted to Project Manager.

Compared to the newly hired Project Manager, there's a 6-7K difference in pay? Wow!  ohmy.gif

Unfortunately, that's the case but of course the gap wouldn't be 6-7K but maybe they'll pay you 5K-6K where new hires are 10K smile.gif

The concern for such jobs is no longer about the money but worklife balance.
If one can sacrifice that then no problems for sure smile.gif

curlyfries, it really depends on a lot of factors. How your boss helps you is also one factor. There's no strict rules to this and they won't just increase your salary by 3K just because you're recently promoted to a PM eventhough newly hired PM's are like 8K-10K.

In my current company, someone with the same grade as myself can have difference in pay for up to 2.5-3K smile.gif Big gap ain't it?

Actually it's true, you don't have to be in Oil and Gas or a specific industry to earn big money and having a Masters or Ph.D doesn't always mean you have the edge (although somehow you do) biggrin.gif

As for myself, I'm still working towards that 5 figure and I certainly hope I'll get it before 30.
