Tried my 2 HDD on the same console before, after you recovered (transfer account to new HDD in your case) your profile on your new HDD that's mean your profile on your old HDD will be disabled. If you need to access back those videos/gamerpics/musics, you have to do the same thing by recover your profile again.

While registering new XBOX Live account, which country did your Hotmail account registered? If your Hotmail account registered under US country then your XBOX Live account will be US account too.
