but i wonder what is the must have programs to get to 'complete' it.....

AntiVirus - Im using Norton 360
Document Progs - Im using Microsoft office 2007, Microsoft Projects 2007, Microsoft Visio 2007 and Adobe 8
Video Codec - K - Lite Mega Codec Pack
Windows Media Player 11 , Ie 7 and Dreamscene

is dreamscene available for XP?

normally depend what u going to use with the laptop.

movie , play games, surfing or etc

An OS, Antivirus and A Ofiice software ..

since this is a laptop you are mentioning ..so using monitoring software to recommendable ..to monitor the cpu and hdd temp ... i use NHC (Notebook Hardware COntroller)

I'd like to ask , the laptop C2D produce hissing sound , I remember someone said you need to install software to recude the C4 bridge processor thing..

Anyone know what software was it ?

get core temp if you're using intel proc. very important to monitor your temp coz laptops are known to be hot. as for software; winrar, office, nero, directx. and anti virus. my main priority after every format

If you are gonna have Vista on it, you don't need much:

1. Office 2007.
2. Trillian 3/Astra Alpha if you have an account. It's fast, supports most popular messaging protocols, and it's the first universal messenger to be able to nudge MSN users (Astra only)
3. Foobar2000 with some kickass skins.
4. Adobe Reader.
5. uTorrent.


You're set to go. Dreamscene/Deskscapes/Windowblinds are optional, but they are nice extras.

Should get free adaware, spybot and AVG.

Other than that, a proper copy of OS (XP, vista, etc.) which can be validated to get the latest updates and software

For Hardware Monitoring :

1) CPU and Hard Drives : NHC or Notebook Hardware Control. U need to download Microsoft Framework 2.0 first

2) GPU temps : If ur using Nvidia card, use NVtemplogger, for ATi suppose u can use Rivatuner v2.01 but yesterday i went thru with someone and we couldnt get it done. Rivatuner works like a charm for Nvidia cards. FOR RIVATUNER, I'll do step-by-step tutorial on how to monitor GPU or GPUs (in case u have SLi) by request.. If not i'll assume u guys know how-to DIY.

I have seen others already post alot lot of useful software.. So i might add up anything that isnt listed yet..

Foxit Reader: Instead of Adobe Reader.. this works faster.

Free Anti-Virus : Avast !


Hitman Pro: Hitman Pro is a useful anti-spyware remover. With this software it will download like 10 or more anti-spyware over the net and then INSTALL, SCAN and UNINSTALL for you with only one click of START button. the only downside is it takes awhile as it needs the whole anti-spywares over the net to trace spyware on ur laptop but it tracks everything.

I'll list more if you specifically want more free programs for entertainment or other purposes.. like image resizer on ur right click menu etc..
