For male stroke patient, after several months of using urine tube to drain urine, if the tube now cant fully drain out the urine and some urine 'leak' out from the penis, what is the possible reason?

The nurse said now it is quite difficult to insert the urine tube through penis and 2 weeks ago even got blood come out from penis. She said the tube now always become blocked by some white substances.

I would suspect that there is an infection. Seeing that the tubes are inserted for a long time, the chances of infection are high. But Im sure the patient's doctor has done culture test, no?

It has become difficult to insert the tube because of the infection is causing swelling in the urinary tract.

blood can be due to traumatic insertion
difficulty insertion can be due to size of the tube, lubrication, technique, other problems which may include prostate enlargement

urine leak out can be due to not properly inflated balloon and tube too small


cloudy urine could mean an infection.
