I did overseas and local (by different photographers, both based in Malaysia).
No complaints on my part for the local shoot, no doubt. But I personally didn't feel much, it was just something to do as part of the wedding process. Dress up and stand among lalangs under the hot sun, etc. It wasn't a "real" experience and we smiled at lalangs for the sake of smiling.
Again, nothing wrong with that, I just personally feel it wasn't that in-depth an experience for me.
My overseas one was a cinematographer and photographer combined, so we had a lot of beautiful photos and videos.
Like TS, mine was a honeymoon and pre-wedding combined. It was a lifetime experience for me because I felt the videos and photos were a documentary of my honeymoon and everything (the places we visited, the meals...) was captured throughout my trip. It was all genuine experiences, true emotions taken when watching gorgeous sunsets from a cliff and by the beach, or eating in a restaurant. I feel blessed to be able to have the chance to experience this.
I think you need to be specific for overseas shots (please make sure you do let the photographer you choose know that you want to take iconic New Zealand stuff and not just grass + blue skies + clouds).
I've sent TS a PM, feel free to ask if you want me to share more.
