I got a friend who had pre wedding in nz.
Super not impressed.
Not because it's not edited, but because it doesn't bring out nz in any of the pictures. Just look like some random pic with lake, mountain in the background.
Those shots even the foot of mount kinabalu can get.
I've had quite a lot of friends in oz nz, and they all notice one thing. A good photographer is hard to come by.
Edit:
What I'm trying to say is, make sure you look at their portfolio properly and make sure you know what kinda shots you're getting, otherwise you'll come away disappointed
That's true. If you are willing to go through the trouble of travelling, hikking, jungle tracking, and waiting for the precised moment, and looking harder. You may find amazing breath taking locations here in Malaysia also. But some places will only looks it's best only at the right season and time. And maybe your friend went on the wrong season during the photo shoot in NZ.
Another thing in my opinion is always the comunication and connection between you and the photographer. It always best to get along and also communicate and telling them what you want and wish to have during your photo shoot.
The portfolios are very subjective. And the photographer might only show what he feels suitable to him. He might have another few thousand photos that are completely different in perspective and might look good too you but not the Photographer hence he did not bother to put it up on the web to showcase. Some photographers might even try new things during your photography session that are not shown in his portfolio. What I am trying to say is, you can't really judge a photographer by only looking at his portfolios. Some photos are clients requested style and some are his own works depending on the situation and lighting conditions. Might not always applies to your conditions and situation. However it's a great way to judge what the photographer can do when given a camera.
And you can always show and share with them samples of what your ideas and desires are and they can always try to replicate at least a little if not 100%. At least you booth are heading to the same path rather than you going your way wishing that the photos will turn out the way you want and the photographer going his way totally different from what you least expected.
Anyway just my 2 cents worth. Cheers..... Peace.
