I have many "videos" in mkv format stored on external hard drive. Currently I just plug into USB port of tv to play but mostly the files are not playable due to codec issue.

If I get a Nvidia shield pro and connect the external hard drive to it, can it be played more reliably? The correct way to doing this is use vlc player installed in Nvidia and play the mkv and output via hdmi to tv?

Thanks.

I don’t plan to setup a Plex media server. Mostly the files just delete after watching haha. So a player like vlc which can play mkv is good enough.

Any recommend local seller for Nvidia shield pro ?
