My Kodi stopped working a few days ago. When I launch it I get a black/grey screen and nothing happens. Cleared cache and I saw it loading with the Kodi logo and then back to the black screen. Anyone face this problem? Do I need to uninstall and reinstall Kodi?

Most likely. Now if you enabled logging .. You might be able to decipher what might have corrupted the booting and fix it.. Typically some corrupt file or dbase, etc.. This be why it's good to keep backups handy.. Say once per week at minimum. Just automate it and there will always be a backup to restore on a fresh install.

Don't know how to enable logging and may not understand the logs anyway. Will try uninstalling first and see if it works. Thanks.

A re-install should clear it right up.. How did it go?
*
Reinstalled and it worked for awhile but its now back to the grey screen. The only thing I use in Kodi is to link it to my NAS for videos, music and photos. Quite strange that its crashing.
How do I do the logging and troubleshoot? Enable developer status and there seems to be a lot of logging related options. Any guides on what to do next?

Yep.. For just that? It's a bit strange... For logging and viewing.. You can use the Kodi logs uploader addon.. Then check the logs for the error. Googling it might bring up others who've suffered the same issue and possibly solved it. However, i did do some light reading. I assume you are using the latest Kodi V18.3? As there were reports about issues with the Shield & SMB protocol used. Did you use Shield's "connect" or created through Kodi?
*
Mine is 18.2 and I'm using NFS not SMB. Will try to reinstall and use the logs uploader addon. I'm not sure what that bolded part means.

Planning to sell my 2015 Shield TV and get this one for Dolby Vision. But I'm quite disappointed with this new Shield TV overall. Too little new features and the Shield tube is bloody joke. They could've at least been more sensible in their pricing.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like I will wait until Kodi or some other app allow DV for local remux files.

There is some new development:-
1. Latest Plex beta 7.24 will able to play DV remux single-layer(profile 5) meanwhile for dual-layer(profile7) it will only play 1st layer(Base-HDR10) and ignore the 2nd layer(Enhancements-DV). Atm, Plex has no plan to add support for multi-stream & DV transcoding which is required to play/transcode DV dual-layer.
Additional note: According to Plex dev, STV 2019 only support DV Single-layer mode.

2. DV remux is now possible with lossless Audio.
Few STV users manage to play it with DTS-X & DTS-HD MA but not with Atmos which is still possible if Plex add required support for Dolby TrueHD in MP4 container.

Haishhh ... always like this with media boxes. I guess I will just wait until its all sorted out or a better android box comes along.

The courier service I use was FedEx and they gave some agent contacts to help me with the SIRIM permit. You need to pay the agent for their services though.

What was the total damage?
Plan to upgrade to the new Shield for DV and upscaling.

Dual layer is reserved for UHD Bluray as far as I know. Allowing a media box to have it available means that box is pirating DV content. Dolby gets royalty from UHD discs sold with DV. They will not allow media boxes to use this as they will then be supporting piracy and losing money. So its simply not going to happen especially for Apple / Nvidia products. Some China boxes may eventually find a way.

I'm planning to get Xbox Series X or PS5 as a UHD disk / local media player. Since these will have actual disc drives, I hope can avoid the problem.

Ya I will wait for PS5 then, hope it have better support.

I understand piracy part, but they allow TV direct insert HDD support also same meaning.

Yeah, that is weird indeed that the TV supports it from HDD. I would have thought that the TV supports only to fulfill the link between UHD player and TV and not directly via HDD.
Anyway, this issue was discussed in the Nvidia forums where it was more or less confirmed that certain profiles will not be supported on the Shield due to Dolby not allowing it for media boxes.

Thanks in advance.
