Hi there,

A real newbie here on DV camera and firewire connectivity. I just bought this new Firewire 4pin-4pin cable and I hooked it up with my Panasonic NV-GS55 and my notebook.

However, I'm not getting any reaction whatsoever... i'm not sure if it works like USB where the notebook will detect a new device and install the necessary drivers or I'm doing something wrong. I tried the DV camera in both recording and playback mode

Notebook - Windows XP Pro

Help !

Thank you.

Usually WinXP will recognize the connection. But sometimes ........!!!!
Try these...

1.) Check if cable is faulty.
2.) Is firewire port ok? Meaning... driver is installed.
3.) Try capturing with other softwares.
4.) Try DVCam on other PC.

5.) What format are you trying to capture? avi.....mpeg..1/2/4....?

1. I have two cables ... so technically ... I doubt that the cable is faulty ....

2. Does the 1394 Connection appearing in the Network Connections qualify that the firewire port is working ? Technically shouldn't be faulty as well since I am using the notebook pre-installed with default software

3. I know it works with the USB cable that came with the camera ... i don't know what software I can use because I can't even detect the camera

4. I tried on two seperate brands with the same response .... cannot detect the camera

I've rebooted the PC many times after installing the drivers ... still cannot detect the video camera ...

The manual is the first place to read ... but not really much use since it doesn't help much ... I've dropped an e-mail to Panasonic Customer Center ... hopefully they can come back with a solution to the problem

OK .. i've tried the WinDV but still doesn't work because it says that the video device cannot be found .... apparently I need to get the camera detected before any of this will function ...

The Firewire connection in the network connections is already enabled .. i've even tried disabling and re-enabling it again ... but still cannot work ... really frustrating camera

Yea.... I just got a response from Panasonic Customer Center ... gave the exact same advice as above ... hahahha ...

nm ler ... i'll try to buy another firewire cable just to confirm that the cable is faulty ...

can I connect one PC to another PC via the firewire and detect automatically ?? that's the fastest way I know to test the cable.
