Question on my PSU - Enermax Liberty 500w.

CPU-z shows my Vcore fluctuation - normally at 1.344v but will fluctuate lowest 1.332v and highest 1.356v.

Does a good PSU show this fluctuations on CPU-Z?

I am not sure about CPU-Z but from the stuff that i read before, a good PSU should not show frequent fluctuation. A good and reliable PSU should be able to show rock solid performance with the least fluctuation possible even on hardcore OCing..
*
Ya, I know. Other apps like speedfan or RM cpu clock would show a stable Vcore. Just the CPU-z always shows fluctuation. Anybody using CPU-Z can confirm whether the Vcore fluctuates?

If so, the my PSU not a good overclocker PSU! sad.gif

I thought Enermax is a good PSU with OCing potential..Maybe its just CPU-Z showing trouble..lol..Dont be too afraid..

Ya, Enermax is a good PSU. However, I think my model is not the ones overclockers will buy. Reason I bought this one was because it is modular (can unplug those cables that I don't need from the PSU).

The reason I ask is because my X2 runs stable at OC 2.69 Ghz. But once I OC at 2.70 Ghz, Orthos will fail. At first at 30 mins, then at 5+ hours and lastly at 7+ hours.

Ya, I know, I can easily up the Vcore a bit but that would increase my core temp to around 60'c. So, I'm thinking it could be due to my PSU vcore fluctuation......

Ya, I also know that 2.69 Ghz is already more that I could ask for but of course, everybody wants the best potential for their rig right? whistling.gif

Thinking of going quad-core once Intel drops the CPU prices on July 22nd.

I'm using enermax liberty 500watts.

Do you think it would be adequate to run a q6600 + single 8800 GTX?

If so, would I have enough wattage to OC the rig?

doubt it, id go for 600ish min. a little extra wattage wouldnt hurt either cuz you dont consume say 1000 watts if you have a 1000 watts psu, you only use what ur PC needs.

if ur psu is constantly on full load (eg: a 500w psu and ur using some 49x watts all the time) you risk overloading ur psu should there be sudden increment of power usage, or worse damaging ur parts.

of course, at the same time, buying a higher wattage psu also cost more, so you'll have to balance it out.

lohwenli: fan dead still want to use, cant blame him, or the product, for that matter yawn.gif

Ok. Thx for the advice! thumbup.gif

looking for Thermaltake ToughPower 2000W rite now.. but cant find in local retails yet. I believe ToughPower is still a nice PSU line.

Wahliao! Why a 2k watt PSU?

One thing I've learned about PSU is that it is better to get a slightly higher wattage than your requirement. If you need a higher wattage PSU next time, just sell the current one and buy a new and better featured one!!! icon_idea.gif

So guys, I'm getting my Q6600 probably tomorrow.....

Think my Enermax Liberty 500w can handle it?

I think I have to limit my OC on both my GC and the proc...... probably go 3.2Ghz only for the Q6600.... sad.gif

i just wanna know how much power used, coz now i'm using 8800gt on my cm380w psu, non-true power. 10A and 15A on dual rails is definately not enough isn't it? i played pes2008, and suddenly the graphics became distorted and then hang. but other games did not have such problems. after a driver update, everything seems to be fine. but i still dunno how if i game for long hours.
*
The minimum requirement of the 8800GT is 400w with 26A on the 12v rail.

You PSU has dual rails and will probably have a total of less than 26A on the 12v rails...... You can't add 10A + 15A to become 26A. Look at your PSU's specification. It should tell what your amperage is on the 12v rail in total....

Anyway, your PSU doesn't meet the requirement on both aspects.... wink.gif Better get a better one....

the huntkey 550w by zhen^wei is sufficient rite?

Added on July 21, 2008, 5:07 pmif i wanna try to oc, it needs extra juice from the psu also too?
*
The 550w should be enough.... from his thread, he said it was truepower, meaning that it should be able to supply a stable continuous power at that range.... however, at that price, not too sure about the quality...

Look at my sig.... my rig is overclocked, and I'm using an Enermax Liberty 500w (truepower too).... so the 550w should be adequate for you rig.... smile.gif

may i ask something, i'm noob in this PSU thing..
thinking to change my current PSU(refer sig) cz i think its not enough to power my system if i wanna do some OCing

between this two PSUs Silverstone SST-ST85F and Silverstone ST85ZF,
which one better cz both 850Watt..

need some advise. icon_question.gif

p/s: forgive me if i asked in a wrong thread
*
Not too sure whether your PSU is adequate or not..... why not try using a PSU calculator to calculate....

Anyway, take a look at these links:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=108088
http://www.overclock.net/power-supplies/15...de-updated.html

ST85ZF is a tier 1 psu, which is definitely the best tier to go for.... but cost more...

ST85F seems to be a tier 3 psu....

I'm also a noob when it comes to PSU.... wink.gif

can i ask here?
im thinking of getting new psu..
which psu worth for rm400 price?pls guide me
*
You should buy base on your needs and the wattage requirements of your rig.

I'm using a gigabyte Odin GT 550w and it is not a bad PSU... you can get the gigabyte Odin pro 550w for less than RM400....

Try to go for tier 1 or tier 2 PSUs..... wink.gif

Whats the lowest wattage that can support CF 4870?
*
ATI recommends at least a 600W PSU......

QUOTE(cloudstrife07 @ Sep 21 2008, 06:28 AM)
hmm, i need a PSU not more than RM350.what's the best one for me?

spec:
intel e2160 (oc)
crucial ballistix 800mhz 2gb kit
biostar t-power i45
hdd 640gb
gainward gs 4850
*
Last time, my 2nd rig had almost the same specs as your rig, with a Nvidia 8400GS Graphic card. It was only using a 350w PSU without any problems....

For the ATI 4850, the recommended wattage is at least a 450w PSU.... a bit higher would be better, as you are OCing your rig too wink.gif

I wonder why some psu enthusiast prefer uninterrupted power source which means they prefer old school design over modular

they also mention something about cleaner current and power source than detachable cable (modular)
*
Modular design produces less clutter in the casing, a neater appearance and less interference with airflow as you can limit the amount of cables attached to the PSU. Due to the electrical resistance at the connectors, enthusiast prefer not to use it.

Pros
- Less clutter in casing
- Neater appearance (especially for those who do casing designs)
- Less interference with airflow inside the casing

Cons
- Electrical resistance at the connectors
- Connectors may degrade or loosen if you frequent unplug/plug them
- Reduced airflow inside the PSU itself due to additional components
- Slightly more expensive due to extra connectors and special cables

Can read more on the basics of PSU in my PSU guide. wink.gif
