Common (and same) rules adopted in Sg and Phil since 2 months ago.

(1) - Dota 6.43b will be used

(2) - All matches will be in an alternate all pick mode (1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1)

(3) - The team who wins the coin toss will choose only one of the following:
(a) host the game and gets to choose either Sentinel or Scourge side of the map to start
(b) be the team that chooses the first hero.

(4) - The game will enforce a complete no feeding rule:
(a)No borrowing of any items
(b)No ally control
©No buying of items from other teammate's gold
(d)You can use your healing pots only to heal your teammates but you cannot pass it to other teammates.

(5) - Gameplay
(a)-All heroes are usable in the tournament as of this writing
(b)-There will be no item bans/restrictions
©-Backdooring is allowed


Which means :
1. A team can buy 5 necronomicon , 5 Euls , 5 Guinsoos , 5 meka and 5 anything just to win the game.
2. No pooling is allowed.
3. BB or whatever is not banned. Yes ! you can pick whatever hero combo in the tavern now to form your IMBA 5.
4. You can use BB + Sven to charge in the base and kill everything in sight including the 6 raxes even though you may not kill a hero at all in the process.
5. You cannot transfer , tango , wards , aegis , cheese , flask and other consumables anymore between teammates because this is considered pooling and is punishable by an instant DQ.

Feedbacks and replays from tournaments held there since 2 months ago indicates there are little to be "abuse" from such rules being enforced. If your team thinks that it can be abused , prove it by beating the seeded teams and win a qualifier with the same "Imba" strat you all have in mind.

Hope this post will be a guideline for rule setting from Melaka Qualifiers onwards.

After holding some discussions with some team leaders , we came out with a set of rules which is combination of MYM and Asian rules that hopefully will :

1. Preserve the fun of the game by limiting excessive abuse of certain items and heroes
2. Reduces the chances of giving a DQ win/loss to teams that battle it out.
3. Simple and easy to understand and remember.
4. Basically is the best we can take from both sides of the scene.

The rules will be posted up by Ian soon .

I think it should not be a problem to join multiple teams in multiple states as long as one of those team and the individual have not break into top 4 at any stage of the tournament.

Which means :
1.You can keep losing in lots of teams in lots of stages.
2.The same team can lose lots of times in multiple states.

"Lose" in this context is not breaking into top 4.

As long as you have not break into the top 4 at any stage either individually or a team, you should be allowed to keep joining until you either qualify in one of the stages or give up yourself. SMM earns more cash that way also. Cant see a reason to disallow it.

But as M4gi stated , once you have break into the top 4 individually with Team Underminer for example. You will be bound to Team Underminer for this tournament at least until the finals. If there is an unfortunate incident that you got kicked out by the team , you cant join in the tournament anymore. But you are free to join in other teams for other public tournaments which is not related this SMM Grand Finals.


The above statement is based on what happened to some teams / individuals last year and some common reasoning. Everything will need to be confirmed by Ian or SMM . I suggest anyone with doubts go to their official website , seek their contacts such as phone numbers and call them personally to clear any doubts.

I do stand behind the reasoning above for this matter. Hope the organisers will implement and give a clarification asap.

We made the rules after lengthy discussions with team leaders from top teams around. We concluded that MYM rules has its advantages and should be integrated to SMM rules. The item rules are one of them. There are reasons we limit those items and we believe by limiting them , the game will be much more fairer and interesting in terms of gameplay.

As the current environment only limits us to LAN tourneys around Asia. We also retained most of our Asian rules inside. We allow backdooring , disallow sharing of items due to past marshalling experience and general acceptance of these rules among rule-setters and tourney organisers across Asia.

The draft method of 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1 and 1-2-2-2-2-1 method will be a source of debate for months to come. Both methods are quite fair imo but require a totally different type of drafting mindset. As Malaysian teams are most likely to participate in Regional LAN tourneys which uses alternative drafting method , it is fair we apply the same method of drafting here.

As for every tournament rule-setters . We are trying to juggle what we think is right and to not let our community suffer from lack of knowledge of the outside world. Last year is a terrible learning curve for us all due to ignorance of developments of the outside world. As usual, the rules may be flawed but we are hoping to improve on that as things go.
