i think maybe we are misunderstanding something here...

xunlei aims to offer better speed by faking its headers, to make they seem to come from "innocent" software such as internet explorer, etc. by doing this, tmnet's throttle mechanism let those packets pass without any slowdown in speed.

now that i think about it... only torrent packets SENT BY A XUNLEI CLIENT will pass tmnet's throttle mechanism. if u use xunlei to download a torrent, but all the seeders of that torrent use utorrent or anything else, then their packets (sent to you) will still be slowed down by tmnet. on the other hand, the packets that you send to other leechers will be faked as an internet explorer packet (etc) and will not be slowed down.

the bottom point is: using xunlei (only) increases our upload speed, since packets we send out will be faked as something else to fool tmnet's throttle mechanism. to get good download speed, we should encourage more and more people to use xunlei.

i'm not a torrent protocol expert, so if i'm wrong, somebody please correct me...

Added on May 20, 2007, 11:24 pmif my theory is correct, this is why those who download stuff from chinese trackers get high speeds - perhaps a lot of those chinese seeders use xunlei...

on the other hand, if u use xunlei to download a local malaysian torrent, unless ur lucky that many of the seeders use xunlei, u'll only get very low speeds. many malaysian seeders use utorrent, etc., and the packets they send to u will still be throttled by tmnet...

Theres a lot of ways to throttle the Bittorent traffic, some using the header, some using the clients id. But if they want to go all the way they also can block the handshake between the client. For example for another client to connect the other client they send the .torrent message that they are using torrent protocol or some sort. So if ISP see this message they automatically throttle the line. So you will ask how come no one spoof this handshake? Without this handshake the other side of the client don't know how to communicate with each other. Err something like that i guess...or maybe i'm wrong. Its late and i'm sober.

I still think that this client is using Bitcomet's core..don't know why just that it behave the same way as Bitcomet does..except of course for other network implementation.

Quote from Bitcomet's websites:

What is Firewall and NAT Traversal in BitComet?
In the world of old bittorrent clients, non-firewalled clients and clients on publicly routable IP addresses are able to help NAT'ed nodes to communicate while downloading the same files. BitComet did a even better job for users behind NAT, it enables users behind differect NAT connected to each other via UDP. That means the download rate may boost up because it can now connect to more peers than before. Without any cofiguration, BitComet will auto dectect your internet connection ( to find out if you are behind the NAT or haven't any successful port-mapping ) and did all those automatically. But you may also enable or disable this feature in the Options - Advanced dialog.

In the past i can get pass the throttle using this method but since only Chinese tracker got lots of Bitcomet and Bitspirit user its kinda pointless cause my files mostly at other places.

Someone actually requested Utorrent dev to create the Nat Traversal but since Bitcomet is close source there is no documented way on how to create this so they abandoned the idea.

^^ The question is why you wanna use xunlei if you got VPN already?
