I built my very first gaming PC last December and I have very low knowledge at the time to know how to do things properly so made a mistake that is quite basic, but stupid.

I bought a GTX 1060 6GB that only requires a 6pins connectors, but I bought my PSU that only provides 8pins PCIE connectors. Its not a problem, however, because the PSU itself is fully modular so I don't have to worry to much about it. For now, the way I power up the GPU is through buying a cable extensions; a 6pins PCIE connector at one end, while the other end is a SATA power drive connector, which is then connected to ANOTHER SATA power drive connector directly to the PSU itself.

The problem right now is that I wanted to do custom mod on my rig such as custom cable sleevings and I was wondering if there is any way for me to make a custom 6pins-to-8pins PCIE connector, to get a clean look without wasting the space on my PSU itself. Meaning that I can actually use the PCIE port directly.

And what are the pins on 6 pins connectors VS the 8 pins connectors itself? Which is the earthing cable, which is the power cable?

I am just starting on modding my own PC so any advice that anyone can give is highly appreciated. Thanks!! cheers.gif

Here's a pic of it from the side without side panel on. Its a cluster of a mess isn't it sweat.gif

And this is a picture of it with the side panel on. I wanted to add RGB strip in it as a final touch later on, that is why I wanted to do a better cable management mod before I put in any more lighting effects in it.

The PSU itself does provide 2 (I think) 6pins connectors on each end but on the cable itself was written IDE/SATA. In my novice and inexperienced mind, I thought that it would not be enough power the GPU, since I had to connect it to the IDE/SATA port on the PSU. bangwall.gif yes, I am not the brightest of the bunch icon_question.gif

Is there any way get the info on my PSU itself, or how to manually check this? Because I tried searching it on their website but there is no result.

There's no earth cable here. The extra 2 pin on the PCIe connector are simply a pair of extra black (negative), strange, isn't it.
If you need any custom cable, sleeved or not, just contact NiclasTeoh. >> https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=1868190&hl=

Or you can just take a knife and chop it off if you dare. Bad advice I know. whistling.gif

Nice. Then there should be no problem at all if I were to use the PCIE slot on the PSU, but just leave it blank right?

Btw I saw the seller you suggested, but it is a post from 2011. Is he still active?

Firstly, nice choice on the case, Im using the same one as well. Below referrence for 2 different GPU setups.

I understand the need of having a neat looking case and i believe most of us are after the same thing. But i would like to remind you too, if you're uncomfortable dealing with wiring like these(its not difficult, really), there is also another option of having just an extension sleeved cable. All my setups are using them and the cable can still be neatly organized without any sort of hard-modding done physically to your PSU pins.
