hi,
I'm gonna need a laptop in two months time.Been doing some scouting lately..
the specs I wanted is :

RM5k
2GB RAM
GPU (not integrated and hopefully a standalone, turbocache is also ok)
Vista Premium
stable
2-3years warranty
n the usual std specs(bluetooth, PMCIA slot, wifi, webcam, etc)
weight matters least.

Dell offers cheap laptop but quality is a bit..sceptical..my fren's dell 640m suffers from bad sector at the LCD screen just after a yr, ngam ngam finish warranty..

I'm looking at Toshiba and Asus, Acer seems to be ok too..

I would be grateful for any recommendations and opnions..

TQ arigato..

With 5k, all those specs are within reach. As to Dell, the simplest thing to do is to extend the warranty and you should be OK, but since you do mind, try to ASUS a8sc perhaps? I don't know much about Toshiba, but the A200s comes with Go7400 IMHO, and well, at this age, I don't think that's the right way.

Or as xin recommend, the Acer gemstone looks rather nice and should appeal to you

of course acer gemstone is awesome but with that kinda 'look' n at RM5k, i guess the specs will hav to suffer to justify the price..

as for the ASUS u recommended, how much is it?the specs seems good..especially with the external graphics card..tho its only 128mb..n with 2yrs warranty..tats good..
at pc fair, asus n toshiba both also offers an addtional yr of warranty making it 3 yrs..worth of warranty..

not bad tat asus..

hey guyz, would like u guyz opinion for sth:

in tat range of RM5k,
option 1:
I can get a Benq S41 or a gemstone with a decent 8600 graphics and most probably 1GB or 2GB RAM

option 2:
If i say I'm able to get a used desktop without LCD for less RM1500 with the specs below:(almost 2yrs)
AMD64 Socket 939 Opteron 146 with original HSF (Boxed)
ABIT KN8 Ultra with Zalman CNPS9500LED
Leadtek 6600GT Extreme PCI-e with 2 bundled game
80GB Hitachi SATA (Serial CBF483XC)
160GB Hitachi D/Star 7200/8M PATA (Serial TCC38KDA)
20GB Maxtor PATA
Logitech Internet Pro Desktop Black Keyboard & Mouse
BenQ DW1625 Lightscrib
WinTV-PCI-FM TV Card (Boxed)
Audigy 2 ZS with Creative T5400 5.1 Speakers & Creative Rear Speaker Stands
Verudium VorteX 430Watts
Coolermaster Centurion 5 with Side Panel & ACRyan UV light tubes and cables

RM500 i spend it on LCD.

remaining RM3k. I need a laptop anyhow. SO shud i settle for this DELL AMD turion with 2GB ram, DVDcombo, 3yrs warranty, ATIx300 integrated, but with win XP. its around RM3k.

which option shud i choose? 1st or 2nd. i'm more to the 2nd option. but can any1 recommend any lappies with a good spec below RM3k?and is reliable? I'm not so sure about DELL's quality some say its ok ok, some say, after 1 yr, bye bye..

option 1 i see..hmmm..

1.how much for the acer gemstone to be upgraded to 2GB?

2.how much for the BenQ S41 to be upgraded to 2GB?

3. the extra RM500 is it worth the upgrade from S41 8600 GS to gemstone 8600 GT + some few other things?

4. how is the advantage of S41 over gemstone?

thx
