So this postdoc fellow/researcher/etc. position that some universities offer, how essential it is? In Malaysia, do you think it is a job or simply a training for fresh PhD or both? I believe postdoc has a lower rank and income than those in lectureship?
Let me know your opinion, please. Thank you.

Not sure about Malaysia, but in the uk or most eu countries, post doc is essential for you to apply lectureship. It is treated as a job. But pay is much lower than lecturing

But pay is much lower than lecturing Upon checking several institutions in Malaysia, the pay is indeed lower than lectureship as it does not include allowances. The benefits are lacking either. Not sure it is worthy or not...hmm...

If you are very committed in research and wanted to expand your publication list, then I recommend doing postdoc for one year. You will have a lot of opportunities to participate in paper publication and this will result in making your resume appears as good. You will also be able to get to know/ collaborate with experts in your field from overseas. Thus networking. I am a final year student and I want to do postdoc after PhD.
For local university, salary for postdoc is RM5500-RM6000 and the contract is one year.

Once you finished your PhD, you probably want to jump directly into lectureship. But this comes with some pros and cons.
Pros: You earn better, most lecturers position are permanent staff basis. Which means you probably entitled to better perks such as bonuses, medical and allowances. While Postdoc probably comes in contract term where you may lose out on the perks as stated.
Cons: Responsibility wise, you are required to conduct lecture class, tutorial, setting of question papers + marking, assignments + marking which can be very tedious can time consuming which lower your time for research. Postdoc on the other hand does not need to do so and just focus on research projects. Which can lead to better quality paper publishing in building profile internationally. Nevertheless, you can still be a lecturer and do good research, probably with lesser time for yourself.
