Hi all sifus,

A newbie investor here, was looking on the many type of investment vehicles and was very interested on bonds.

After some quick search about bonds in Malaysia, seems like only CIMB retail bond doesn't have high minimum amount requirement to invest.
Is there other ways to invest in bonds in Malaysia other than through our banks as middleman?

Also, is the bond we investing is municipals bonds or government bonds or others?

Appreciate for answering my noob question. notworthy.gif

Mostly are corporate bonds, like commercial banks, big corporation etc.

Gov bond has even higher threshold to participate, and generally seldom offer to retail.

Another noob who reads Omputeh book and try to apply into the local context.... first of all Municipal Bond does not exist in Malaysia.

You wanna invest in bonds?

Do you know these key words and how to quantified them?

McCaulay Duration, Modified Duration, Convexity, Yield, Yield to Maturity .

Just like if you want to buy stock - market you need to know Dividend Yield, PER, ROCE, ROI, ROE etc...

If you don't know, you better let the fund manager handle it. Just buy Bond Fund.

You can start with Bond Fund first before exploring more on the direct corporate bond.

The risk of bond default in bond fund is less compare to direct bond due to diversification.

Imaging you subscribed to Kinsteel bond several years ago and it went default. Never put all eggs into one basket.

Yup, our municipal cant issue bonds. Their finances depend wholly on federal govt brows.gif

Try unit trust with mandate on bonds.
