Most people who says dryer sucks here don't even own one at home. Almost everyone who own a dryer keep praising about the benefits of having it at home. Talk about sour grapes... Dryer use more electricity, clothes shrinking, bla.. bla.. bla.. I don't even recall when was the last time I'm using iron to clear out wrinkles from my clothes... My dryer rating is 2.2 kW, using it only 4 times per week, less than 1 hour usage each time... So, per month I am using only 2.2 kW x 4 hours/week x 4 weeks/month = 35.2 kWh/month. Considering I am paying electricity at higher tariff around 33 cents/ kWh... I am paying only about RM12 maximum per month for electricity usage for the dryer. I don't have to iron my clothes, so I'm saving about 2 hours per week x 1 kW electric for the iron... So that's about RM 2.64 worth of electricity saved (at 33 cents / kWh tariff)... Which means effectively I'm using just RM 10 extra per month as compared to other people with similar amount of laundry load. RM 10 per month is definitely worth it for the last 8 years I'd been using the dryer without any problems with the dryer or the much touted problems of clothes shrinkage. If you worry too much about the extra carbon footprint, just hook up your dryer to a 400 Watt solar panel with batteries to store the solar energy.
