Would like to ask. Does anyone know what's the customs regulations like with regards to shipping electronics from overseas? Specifically headphones.

Previously I read somewhere on this forum that the customs will not tax electronic devices such as headphones if the selling price (or price paid) of the item is less than RM500. Is this true? Any specific detail on this? Just need some confirmation.

Has anyone had their item being confiscated by the customs when shipped from overseas? If yes, how much is the item and how do you resolve it? Do we need to be present at the customs office presumably at KLIA/KLIA2 to clear the item?

Would appreciate some thoughts on this matter. Thanks.

By the way, I'm planning to ship a pair of headphones that cost less than US$100 from overseas but am afraid that it might get stuck at the customs as the thing looks like it has >RM1,000 in value as it comes with fancy hard casing. I'm not sure how the customs officer usually checks the value of the item, whether he will google via internet or just base on the looks of the item to judge its value.

If kena tahan, wait for love letter from kastam..

Then bring the letter, your IC, tracking number, invoice and extra money to claim your item from PMK KLIA..

Check your item HS Code in google, then search for any taxes for your item in http://tariff.customs.gov.my/

Item value + shipping less than RM500, no need tax.
Between RM500-RM1000, 6% GST + other taxes if available
More than RM1000, 6% GST + other taxes if available + K1 form (RM19.10)

If phone, need to go Sirim for extra lesen.

Thanks for all responses guys. Item value + shipping is less than RM500. Just a bit concerned it may still get stuck at the customs if the officer judge by just looking at the item.

I'm still getting confirmation but it is likely that the item will be shipped from Guangdong, China. So shipments from China will always pass customs? Even if more than RM500? Interesting. Perhaps due to the Malaysia-China relationship, or that China is always a great aid to Malaysia's economy by providing a lot of loans...

If you use forwarder, their fees will include custom, so they will calculate everything for you.

If you do yourself, don't think too much. If kena custom, they will contact you to walk-in to get your stuff and pay custom.

If you buy from China, don't worry, usually always pass custom biggrin.gif

You can read about buying from overseas to Malaysia for more details.

That's good to know. By the way, any thoughts which is a better shipping option between these two? :-

1. China Post Registered Air Mail
2. Singapore Post

Thanks.
