I flashed my C1200 provided by TM to US firmware, 5G is getting stronger (22.5dBm vs EU 16dBm), txbf available and more channels are available (36/40/44/48/149/153/157/161), downside is 2.4G seems getting worst, if anyone planned to use 5G only its a good move to flash US firmware. Btw I did change the power adapter to 12v/3a due to original adapter(12v/1a) seems struggle after flashing to US, US version uses 12v/2a vs EU version 12v/1a

Ps. I can see 802.11k with wifianalyzer on Android after flashing to US firmware, not sure if it’s working or what, didn’t check properly

The 802.11k on this unit confirmed works, next thing I wanna do is get 2 more units of this and connect them with LAN cable since it so cheap in 2nd hand, about RM100 can get. So that with RM200 I can have 3 APs with roaming features, each AP I can runs about 480mbps with my XS Max, killer C/P rate

Are you using US version dated 280118?

Do you encounter random reboot?
*
So far no, maybe I use it as AP not router, and maybe due to I changed the power adapter to higher grade to match the higher txpower output , US version original come with 12v/2a vs MY version 12v/1a

Sorry what i mean are you using this US firmware version
Archer C1200(US)_V1_180123  to be able to get more channels.

Can you check whether the US version has the hidden WDS function which is available in the EU version?

I'm also curious to know if your TM 'reflashed' router is generating more heat with a higher 3A power adapter. Or whether the lifespan of the router will be shorten by using higher amp adapter.
*
Yes I’m using 180123 firmware, how to check the WDS?
As for power adaptor, it’s totally safe to use higher Amp as long as the voltage is same, the device will only draw as much power as it needs, it’s more like 3A = “up to 3A” and 1A =“up to 1A”. But voltage is the one we need to be careful, higher voltage will burn ur device

-.- US firmware = different hardware --> Cannot flash EU hardware with US firmware.
*
Actually you can, just flash the beta firmware on the 1st page of this tread, then flash to US firmware, no problem.

Benefit:
Stronger 5G, really strong in low channels (36-48)
802.11k supported, so you can add it as an AP(LAN) with any router, you will get seamless roaming
Beamforming available
WDS supported

Bad:
Weak 2.4G
No way back to EU or MY firmware (I'm not figure it out yet, maybe someone have better idea)

So, if you plan to use it as an pure 5G AP and you have a LAN connection, this firmware is made for you, otherwise, stay in EU.

PS. Change a better power supply for maximize stability, US version uses 12v/2a vs MY/EU 12v/1a, just get a 12v power supply with 2a or more, I got it from Sri Computer Lowyat for about RM20+

PPS. Those are just my personal experience, try at your own risk! I've never use it as router, not sure how it works, but as an AP, uptime is about 9 days before I removed it for another AP testing, no hangs no lag no problem, I'm thinking if I plan to use it for a long period, I will get another one of it and connect them behind my OpenWRT router, 5G Wi-Fi cover my whole house area with 450mbps~510mbps, by spending RM160(RM60 for WR1200JS OpenWRT router and RM100 for another C1200 in 2nd hand market, 1st C1200 is free by TM), I just can't seems to find a better C/P rate option, no one even near

Which US firmware? This one? https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download...00/v1/#Firmware

I am using different method to set the wifi country code for EU firmware via config.bin method. It works.  flex.gif
I leave the EU firmware default country code for 2.4ghz wifi while editing the 5.0ghz country code to US. The best of both world. Impressively, there is really an increase in 5.0ghz signal strength dbm.  hmm.gif  Not sure if the increase is caused by beamforming functionality.

This is because US FCC allowed higher txpower. Btw, how to edit the config.bin?

Btw, stronger signal meaning transmission only or receiver as well? Reason asking because TMNET upgrade my TP-Link Ac1200 to D-Link Ac1200 with MU-MIMO. I placed my main router at 2nd floor and the 5G signal only strong at 2nd floor. In ground floor it will automatically switch to 2.4G, by placing the TP-link router near the staircase as WDS using 5G, now I can get up to 160Mbps (My Unifi speed is 300M). I have done speed testing using my phone at the same location i placed the tp-link modem, I am getting the same speed by connecting to the D-Link (main router). Meaning if stronger signal just for transmission then no point for me to upgrade. Thanks sifus.

Most high-end phones in the market can deliver up to 800mw, so don't worry about the receiver. As for the speed u got, it's normal since this C1200 is 2x2 MIMO device, real world speed for 2x2 devices is about 500~600mbps max, if u can get wi-fi speed about 320mbps at the place, and u put C1200 there as an WDS, the speed will cut into half, half to talk to the main router and half to talk to ur phone. I plug a LAN cable to my PC and set this C1200 as 5G WDS, the speed I got is about 500mbps, if I connect my phone to this unit I got about 250mbps.

The best way to use this C1200's strong 5G is to set it as an AP, it has 802.11k supported so ur devices which has 802.11k supported will experience seamless roaming between any router and this AP.

Btw, forget about MU-MIMO, it's almost useless, just marketing

Do I need to change the adapter still? If I disabled the 2.4G, still need 2A adapter?
*
Not sure, turn a radio off will reduce the power consumption for sure, maybe it makes it perfect for 1a, who knows?

Sounds like power adapter fail, have u try to use another power adapter?
