Just wondering...

I'm kinda malas to reinstall back almost every software I have.. so I wanna know...

How reliable is the upgrade option of the Vista?? Is it ok if I choose to upgrade within XP into Vista.. or should I install a fresh copy of Vista instead??

And then... how come I didn't encounter the option of formating my C: drive when booting using Vista DVD??

Also... while transfering pictures (around 3GB) into the folder pictures.. suddenly it stopped and says "Not Enough Memory"...??? shakehead.gif

My spec:

*Quite problematic la this Vista... not mention how my sound card is rendered useless due to driver compatibility issue...

Phoenixwunin,

For your first problem, try running the installer as administrator. (Right-click on the installer-->Run as Administrator.)

sad.gif Still not working... it still gives the same error... I wonder what is the problem with this Vista...

About the transfer issue... I have solved it by transfering one folder at the moment... very tiring too tongue.gif

But this Adobe Acrobat problem really is frustrating... =(

Now it's getting stranger... I can't seem to connect to any of Microsoft website at all... my internet connection works fine at the moment.. don't have any problem entering other site... which gives me trouble as I can't set my Live Search to Google now... rclxub.gif

Do you all have problem accessing this site: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=50989

I dunno what this has to do with Temp folder... but after I "accidently" change the compatibility mode to Windows XP SP2 after 20 times of failed attempt to install it... the whole installation procedures works ok without any problems at all... ofcoure I initiate it a an administrator (like mystical zero instructed).. no problem so far...

Thanks a lot for your help sifu... notworthy.gif

The only problem left (apart from no-solution driver incompatibility) is my internet connection... can't connect to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=50989 and any other microsoft site at all... sad.gif

===============

Regarding the connection issue I'm experiencing right now...

I am toying with the Phising Filter option available in IE7..

Then when I try again to load the microsoft website.. it says something like Phising Filter is currently unavailble because no connection can be established with Microsoft online... well.. something like that.

Which hinted to me that not only I can't surf to Microsoft website... my PC right now is totally off-connection with microsoft online... no update and what so ever...

Anyone has the same kind of problem like me?? I think this really has something to do with the connection of Vista in my PC.. like firewall or something.. but I didn't use any third party firewall other than the one provided by Vista themselves..

Bl00dy amazing...

Well... I reformatted my PC with the same DVD of Vista again (don't really put up much hope..)

And instead of installing all the new anti-virus and so on (not even my GC and mobo drivers)... I decided to connect to internet straight away... voila... all working now.

Now I will try and reinstall each driver and program one by one... I believe on of the programs I installed cause this to happen.

Arghh... seems that Kaspersky is giving me trouble... dmn... wasted precious money on that one sad.gif

Guys.. for the moment can you all suggest me any good and reliable free anti-virus I can use until I get myself another anti-virus. Don't have money lar to buy another one now... sweat.gif

I'm not really familiar with the choices of free anti-virus that is available since I have stucked with Kaspersky for so long edy.. and never bothered to check on other anti-virus.

Okay.. sounds like it is very reliable to you... since you recommend it... I'll try it straight away...

Thanks a lot sifu... notworthy.gif

============

So far after reinstalling my Windows Vista... no other problem has occured... now I started to think this is a great OS... although quite laggy a bit but that could be due to my RAM being only 1GB... need to top-up a little bit... perhaps to 2GB.

More likely proc. I just upgraded from AMD Athlon 3000+ to C2D E6600, both uses 1GB ram, and now I can run Opera, sidebar, pause video and still play Command and Conquer without lag. RAM was just 85% used which is far from optimised (95%), so I'm happy with my 1GB right now  rclxms.gif

OMG... I need to fork out almost RM1000 to make sure my PC is Vista happy... thanks for the heads up sifu notworthy.gif

At least I know what I need to do now... save more money and take dual-core first before change to 2GB. If I change to 2GB now.. taking into consideration my motherboard now is DDR... I'll waste more money when I decided to change to C2D later on (DDR2).

==========================

And now... the very first problem of the day... kinda weird though.

I restarted my PC just now after letting it on for the whole night.. and after the loading screen it just went blank. I force restart it and it do came into Windows... but before the sidebar appear... the cursor and everything hang again... as usual.. I was scared Vista had screwed up my PC again.

Restart again and this time everything went smoothly and until it gives out warning about "display driver stopped responding and has been recovered".

Anyone has any idea what is happening to my PC?? I'm currently on GeForce 6800GS (driver 158.18 for Vista).

overheating gc..and of coz unstable (too high) overclocks will cause the display driver stopped responding error.
*
Err... I don't overclock my PC. Don't know about the temperature though... in Vista I couldn't find even the driver version unlike XP where it all (temperature, driver version etc...) can be found easily via Display Settings. Or perhaps I didn't notice it sweat.gif . Dunno what is my current temp...

Anyway like dinozilla suggested... I've reinstalled the driver and so far.. no problem has yet to occur..

Dunno true or not... but I remember seeing someone said in this thread that Vista will auto defragment your PC when not in use...

Maybe I confuse with something else... though

I did some research and I think the problem is Superfetch. I disabled this service and so far no stress to my HDD.
*
Um... have been hering about superfetch lots of time... if you don't mind.. can explain to me what this thing actually do??

Is this the thing that is suppose to smoother the transfer rate of files and usb??

QUOTE(adriankhoo153 @ May 14 2007, 09:08 AM)
Yes it's true. The default setting is it will auto defrag ur pc when system are idle. Anyway, i turn it off.  tongue.gif

Wow... neat and smart... biggrin.gif

Just wondering.. will it affect the performance of our system somehow with this auto-defrag system on??

Hi all sifus here,

2. Whenever I press "F1" for Windows Help, I always got this error message saying "Internet Explorer cannot download / from help. Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The request site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later".

Please help smile.gif Thanks in advance~! blush.gif

Um.. I got the same problem before... but it is worse than yours...

I can't connect to almost every site related to Microsoft. Phising filter fails to work... and can't even update my Windows. Problem solved however when I decided to reformat my PC back...
