First of all, i will let you understand that coating is everywhere now. Even shopping mall, the car wash inside provide coating with few hundred ringgit. What I can tell you is to purchase coating, is better to go for branded coating. Most of the coating can only last one year and it has no more repellent effect etc.
Many people questioned about how many layers, the difference of ceramic coating and glass coating, the durability etc. The number of layers do not reflect the quality of the product for coating. Doesn't mean that the more layers, the more protection for the car paint. It is extremely wrong concept. No matter how much layer you put on the car paint, it still works the same! The thing you need to check on is the density of the liquid, the higher the density, the better protection of the coating on the car paint. Next, the difference of ceramic coating, glass coating and etc. To be honest, it is just the marketing strategy. They work the same, but produced using different type of technology, which is why they have different term. Besides that, the durability for coating should be last more than 5 years. Coating which only last less than 5 years, is better you go for polishing and waxing. Coating is the evolution of polishing and waxing, whereas PPF (paint protection film) is the evolution of coating. Coating helps to keep your car always look new and shiny, and easy to clean. But PPF does not only make your car look new and shiny, it also helps to protect your car from stone chip and scratches. PPF is just like your screen protector of your phone. If you wish to get higher second hand value for your car, you have to use coating/PPF.
Next I will explain a little about tinting. As for tinting, I believe many people know those well known product such as LLumar, V-kool, 3-M etc. Why are their film much more expensive? Are their film so good? Is it worth to invest?
Well, here is my explanation.
Llumar, V-kool, 3-M they are international brand. International brand's products are expensive. Their tinted film technology currently is multi-layer sputtered, which means the film can reject the sun heat effectively. Their UV rejection and IR rejection are not high. But their TSER (Total Solar Energy Rejection) is high. This technology requires higher cost of material, machines. That's why their tinted film price is much more higher. If you use solar spectrum meter to test, the results are not satisfying. But they can reject heat effectively. For other local brands, such as RhinePro, Raytech, Windshield etc, the price is lower compare to international brand because the tinted film they use is Nano-Ceramic Film. This type of film does not reject heat effectively but the cooling period for your car is much faster compare to multi-layer sputtered film. If you use solar spectrum meter to test, the results should be the same as the catalogue (unless they lied). The durability of Nano Ceramic film is better than Multi-layer Sputtered film. With Multi-layer Sputtered film, it will oxidise under 4 years and the effect of heat rejection will disappear. Let me make a simpler explanation, with A film, while you driving, you do not feel the heat from the sun but when your car leave under the hot sun some time, it does not cool that fast after you turned on your air-conditioning. On the other hand, B film helps your car cool very fast. (A is Multi-layer Sputtered film and B is Nano Ceramic film)If you ask whether which film is good, or worth to invest, it has to depend on you.
