recently my p4p800-x died without warning, i had to get a replacement asap as my family members use the com very frequently especially my dad who surfs klse.com.my for hours almost daily... having read so many good reviews about the asrock i convinced my dad to fork out a lil bit more $$$ for the mobo and processor.. a total of RM690..

With the mobo i managed to o/c the E4400 to 2.950GHz with my ddr400 running at 4:3 that is 221MHz.. unfortunately beyond FSB295 it's not Prime stable. This is by no means a great OC for a C2D but i get to keep my AGP card and DDR400 mems (although i plan to get DDR2 soon *Update: Already got them! YAY! rclxm9.gif )... overall i'm very satisfied with this combo... it's fast, it's stable and more importantly it's cheap... i couldnt have asked for more.... anyone with very limited budget could consider this... nod.gif

*Update:
For those who asked about the benches n proc info.. here they are... smile.gif
E4400 batch no. Q646A724T

yeah, i'm also in the same situation as u AREA51, looking for an upgrade option but with small budget ..

i'm aiming for the e4400/e6420 + asrock 4coredual-vsta/asrock 775dual-vsta ..
so far the only mobo that i know which have both ddr1 & ddr2 and also agp & pcie is asrock

i'll be using it with my ddr400 and 6600gt

AREA51, care to show some benchies and specs of ur new rig?

The AGP/DDR Asrock board runs on a 865 chipset, 295fsb is considered fantastic already. Practically all 865/875 boards (mostly socket 478) would not go beyound 300fsb without voltmodding, and even with suicide voltmodding it will only reach ~320-330fsb. So sorry pal, 295fsb is as far as you can go; you're not gonna be able to get that e4400 any faster than you are already.

The 775Dual-VSTA uses Via PT880Pro/Ultra chipset.. but you are right, there's an FSB wall at around 300MHz for this board... sad.gif

i also have this board coupled with e4300, dd2 ram and agp card. max can go is 295 fsb. but considering the price i really think this is a great board for people who cannot afford to upgrade all components at a time.

Hmm, I haven't been keeping up to date then. But then again VIA chipsets haven't been known for good overclocking since the nforce and intel 8xx/9xx chipsets came out.

I was also on a very thight budget when my computer died. Very hard to find mobo with agp and ddr here which also support C2D. Got a C2D+mobo (support agp only) with RM650. The mobo is ECS, never heard of it.

I tried to OC with this mobo but failed. At one point, need to clear the CMOS. So, this mobo is not recommend for OC.

this mobo is no way meant for o/c ... but it does give a bit of room for o/c
i think the primary purpose of this mobo is to 'keep' ur old stuff like ddr1 & agp before moving to ddr2 & pci-e (when u r ready) ..

from website reviews ...this board does seem to hit its limit at ~300mhz fsb

You seem to have gotten a great OC on this CPU.
May i ask what the batch no.,week, make for the CPU is,as i am
thinking of getting this CPU and a new mobo..a Biostar and Kingmax
2x2GB DDR 800 as they are quite cheap.

Thanks
Regards

hi guys sorry i have not been free these few days because of exams...
to answer your questions, yes the o/c is done on stock voltage as the Asrock doesn't have Vcore adjustment.. as i wont be at home any time soon i cant really check the batch number and stuff for the E4400. All i can remember is it's of the L2 stepping, made in malaysia.. 1.35V... smile.gif hope that helps...

Heck if you can already max out the FSB even additional vCore isn't going to help. Motherboard won't let you go any higher anyway.

The downside of this mobo is PCIe 4x. When use high end card really bottleneck the performance when playing in high-res.

well, yeah i do agree the board is bottlenecked at pcie 4x ...
but this board is meant for budget users anyway ..

seeing from the OCworkbench review, the performance diff was actually 'negligible' with about 2-10% diff compared to boards with pcie 16x ...

Well, since the fps is already above 30, it should not be very noticable in terms of real life usage. Above 60-80fps its completely unnoticable because even the monitor can't update that fast..

the mobo does have a fsb around 290-300mhz ..

as for mine, i only manage to get it run at 285*9 = 2.565ghz with my e4300

try disabling the "Flexibility Options" ..
i tried that and now my memory is running 1:1 at 295mhz (590mhz)...

i'm using kvr ddr2 667 1gb by the way

some tips from fellow forumers say don't overclock the pcie freq more than 110mhz ..or u'll damage the card ..

Yup, like mentioned earlier, the board can't go higher than ~300 fsb. And there is no reason to overclock the PCI-E-the performance increase is hardly noticeable, and its a lot of trouble keeping the system stable if you try to overclock it (might even damage it). Just keep it at default (100MHz).

Checked Asrock website and found that there are 3 models that support DDR/DDR2 + AGP/PCI motherboards. They are 775Dual-VSTA, 4CoreDual-SATA2 and 4CoreDual-VSTA. Not many shops sell Asrock and even my computer supplier can only get me 4CoreDual-VSTA for RM250.

Any suggestion as to where can get these boards and the prices if possible.

Any suggestion as to where can get these boards and the prices if possible.

erm..
seem like e4400 little harder to get beyond 3GHz..
last time try an e6750 can hit 3.44GHz easily..
and "we" only get it just usd124...smile.gif

This Asrock mobo seems like good in overclocking as it's a budget mobo. I see someone posting at front page and the mobo is just costing < RM200 . Impressive price on LGA775 mobo. The highest FSB can go until 295MHz only on it?
