My gps suffered big time even on Oreo. I held back from updating for quite a few many months and all of a sudden the GPS just stopped locking. It struggled to even get signal in clear sky. Failed the GPS test under clear sky.

I then updated to Pie out of desperation and still the same. Proceeded to factory reset, still same. Was about to go to service centre, but gave it one more try a few days later. I actually opened up the back cover to get more signal or check for bad contacts. Without the back cover the signal strength and locking time and stability improved tremendously, so I just cleaned up the internal of the back cover and reinstall it.

Now it’s working ok. Under clear sky can lock in under 5s, holding the lock. In a car I can get a lock. But the strength is not as high as my Samsung. Note. Usually out of a bunch of satellites I can get the best at 30 to 33 dB for one or two satellites, the rest are between 20 to 30. It’s just good enough for me to navigate in the car. It doesn’t work well enough for things like indoor location, photo location tagging etc.

TLDR I also suggest using GOS status app and hanging the location source to google fused. It feels faster but please try to navigate with it.

Yes, very easy for me. Just RM6 toolset from Mr.DIY and a plastic pry tool (you can make your own).

For my case I went to the test *#*#6484#*#* , item 27. GPS was failing and SNR very low. After open up, under clear sky the same satellite number will show a higher SNR and hopefully it is passing. It does not need the back cover to get any satellite signals. With the cover back on, the signal should only degrade ~1dB.

I doubt it's maxis problem. More like phone problem. Because my parents using maxis (iPhone) don't have GPS problem at all.

As for me(Mi A1) the problem come sometimes. Could be like what our brother said something about the back cover being metal..

Currently I m using the red one but for Mi A1 not Mi A2. How bout you guys? 

After March/April update (i mean two updates before this), phone heating up much when using fb to stream video; hot during gaming too but consider normal.

Antutu app shown batt heat about 37'c while cpu 47'c.

ok i think i settle the gps issue liao...still testing....
in short need to flash...its software problem maybe via update
flashing  i had  bad exp just now..bcause not all version compatable...some loop restart...i almost go buy new phone just now......but finally made it....and straight test gps....below 10 sec lock
