I have similar model given by the company. Build quality wise is okay (although mine have some creaking sound). Keyboard is good. Display is good. Battery life not so good (could be due to OneDrive syncing). Take the SSD option as the normal hard drive seems to be on the slow side (in comparison to my personal laptop using SSD). The trackpad is good too. If you're using Excel a lot then perhaps check online reviews as well for better understanding. My personal use wise, it does struggle when a few Excel files are opened simultaneously but again it could be due to traditional hard drive rather than SSD.

Edit: mine is using 8th Gen Intel i7 processor
*
Thanks for the quick review. The model will have BOTH 1TB HDD and 128GB SSD.
Currently using HP Envy 13 6th Generation 15-6200U with 128 GB SSD. Will become slow with multitasking (Office app-word and excel open together, Stats app, Browser etc) recently.
HP offering 8GB RAM with 2 HDD is quite tempting.

Perhaps if the programs run from SSD it will not face any slow down. The 1TB HDD is of lower speed so you can feel the difference. I think your Envy might seem tad faster too. I was using HP ProBook 440 G2 before the motherboard gave out.
*
actually my envy 13 is a 6th generation i5 with 128gb SSD and 4GB ram... getting slower with multiple win10 updates and multiple apps (word, excel, spss, smartpls, chrome).
thinking of getting hp pavilion 14 with 8th generation i5 with both 128gb SSD and 1TB HDD and 8gb ram, hoping that new CPU will be better at multitasking.

envy 13 price bought rm2899 but suddenly increased to 3699....
pavilion 14 offered at rm3148 (after coupon)

worth to upgrade from envy 13 to pavilion 14?

Though old, Envy is different class of laptop and Pavilion, sadly is more of an entry level laptop which is why from personal usage view, I believe it underperforms. Especially when starting up. Given the price point as well, perhaps you want to compare with similar offering from Dell or Lenovo.

this is the spec of HP Pavilion 14

so far... similar Dell is Inspiron 13 2-in-1 but single HDD and onboard graphics and a bit more expensive (rm3699). Lenovo e480 is >rm4k for similar spec.

any other options?

Yeah, in the end it comes down to your personal preference + budget. As a normal work laptop, perhaps the Pavilion will serve good. The graphic cards, in my opinion, doesn't serve much purpose unless you are into gaming or do  graphic intensive work, which again, might not be as superior to other higher level laptop. For normal users, onboard graphic should be sufficient.

Go with what you prefer bro  thumbup.gif

Bro. Your link is dead.

Are you referring to this one?

http://h20386.www2.hp.com/MalaysiaStore/Me...01&opt=&sel=NTB

I hope you didn't bought it yet because that is a really HORRIBLE deal.

Here's my recommendation. Much cheaper, more powerful AND more premium. Same HP site.

http://h20386.www2.hp.com/MalaysiaStore/Me...43&opt=&sel=NTB

Just RM2899! Best in its class. I have already tested it myself. Get this one quick bro! Best of luck. ;-)

i dont get it.
HP Pavilion 14 (in ur link) has 8GB RAM, 14 inch screen, 2 types of storages: 1TB HDD & 128GB SSD, 940MX. price rm3148 (after MYOFF6 coupon)
vs
HP Pavilion 15 (ur link) has 4GB RAM, 15.5 inch screen, 1TB HDD, MX150. price rm2725 (after MYOFF6 coupon)

rm423 difference. (+4GB RAM, + 128GB SSD)

by the way, i need 8GB RAM for my statistical apps.

if u have any other options at rm3k price range with 8GB RAM, portable and good battery life, will be much appreciated.

TQ sifu

i am clashed between 2 specs

Dell Vostro 14 5000 (5471)

i5-8250U
8GB RAM
256GB SSD
2GB AMD Radeon 530
RM3399

vs

i5-8250U
8GB RAM
128GB SSD + 1TB HDD 5400rpm
4GB AMD Radeon 530
RM3699

Is it worth to pay extra RM300 for smaller SDD and graphic memory but plus 1TB HDD?
My requirements: office work, statistics works, NO GAMES, long batery life and portable.

256 GB SSD vs 128GB SSD+1TB HDD
2GB Radeon 530 vs 4GB Radeon 530

others specs are the same (backlight keyboard, FHD screen, fingerprint etc)

any input from sifu?

Hmm no no, OKish build quality and mediocre battery life. If you need long battery life and portability, Acer Swift 3 15 or Acer Spin 5 13. Check my whitelist in my signature.

some reviews said vostro with 8th gen... good battery life..
had acers in the past... latest one is aspire s7.... not good battery life... wifi still difficult to connect

so acer getting better now?
worried about acer battery life, wifi connection issues (despite driver updated to latest one)

my current laptops
- HP Envy 13 (2 yrs old)
- Acer Aspire S7 (5 yrs old)
- MBA 13 (5 yrs old)

all i5 with 4GB RAM and SSD
currently need 8GB RAM for applications (office and stats application)

prefer not to get 15.6 inch laptop as it is not portable and heavy

Planning to replace HP Envy 13.... current price of HP Envy 13 is too expensive. (bought ENVY 13 at rm2799)

any advice?

Build quality: equally good, Swift 5 is slightly better
Battery life: Swift 3 15=Spin 5 13>Swift 5
Portability: Swift 5>Spin 5 13>Swift 3 15
Display: Spin 5 13>Swift 5>Swift 3 15
Cooling (important for KBL-R CPU performance): Swift 3 15>Spin 5 13>Swift 5 (Spin 5 13 and Swift 5 have kinda mediocre cooling)
Input devices: equally good

Anything else you want to know?

which one will be an all-rounder from the three?

Not worth it. Y520 is better IMO, much better cooling, IPS panel, priced less and still have money to add RAM and SSD. Maybe can get the i7 model too.

Wait for CFL-H models

Um no, I'll never recommend them. FX and GL series runs too hot, mediocre cooling. Even can't handle a 1050 properly. High end line like Zephyrus M and G series are fine but too expensive, there are better options. Not to mention that Asus gaming laptops have poor QC and QA.

how about the new gen of asus... FX504

HYPERCOOL TECHNOLOGY

IMPROVED COOLING AND LONGER LIFESPAN

The thermal design of FX504 significantly prolongs its lifespan and provides stable performance for graphics-intensive gaming, with HyperCool technology combining the patented self-cleaning ADC system with the customizable Fan Overboost function. By expelling harmful dust particles and dirt from the chassis through two dedicated tunnels, the ADC system is a cooling masterpiece that acts like the laptop's immune system — preventing build-up in the thermal fins to increase system stability and lifespan. The adjustable Fan Overboost function is specially designed to fit multitasking and gaming needs: Choose between three different modes to find the perfect balance between fan performance and noise level. A pair of copper heat pipes and a dual-fan system cool the processor and graphics card independently, while the airflow-optimized chassis design increases thermal efficiency by up to 27% in contrast to standards cases. An intelligently-placed fan is located right below the WASD key group to ensure your keyboard stays cool even during long gaming sessions.

the i5-8300H system is cheap, rm3299
