I went to LY last night..
You're totally right bro..

Sellers top recommendation is Lenovo Ideapad 320S (14")..
Yes it use IPS panel..

The cons is I need to top up money to install extra 128 GB PCIe SSD..

If I upgrade 128 SSD, do I need to upgrade RAM up to 8GB too?
or just ok?

Total cost for 128 SSD and upgrade to 8 GB RAM is around RM2900..
just 100 below top budget..  doh.gif

One more thing Brightstar don't have this laptop.

If you know best shop to get, do inform me..
I need to buy this today for sure..

2.9k is quite a bargain IMO. You get an PCIe SSD for that price.

I bought mine 320 (without S), I had to replace my ODD with a HDD caddy - it doenst come with a M.2 slot. And, it was at the same price.

Wanted Acer Aspire 5, which comes with an M.2, but the design is kinna ugly

Umm no. Ideapad 320 non S is mediocre. Everything. To be honest with you: If design is important then why ask for recommendations. Just buy the laptop that has sleek design. In fact good design doesn't mean good laptop.

Yes, that's why I was saying it was quite a good price for his 'S' model.

But frankly speaking, I am not sure what do you define mediocre with, cause Acer Aspire 5 and Lenovo 320 comes with similar hardware (on paper). Do enlight me further so that I could make a better distinction in the future.

Don't just compare specs. Ideapad 320 has mediocre build quality (flex too much, easy to twist), mediocre battery life+mediocre cooling (DVD drive takes up space) and OKish keyboard (due to keyboard flex). Also TN panel, same with Aspire 5. Too many trade offs, not much difference with those cheapo Asus Vivobooks and HP Pavilions. 320s 14 is better.

My criteria when choosing consumer laptops is build quality first, battery life second, the rest are display and input devices, maybe portability and warranty length as well. QC and reliability are not included since these depend on luck, however most budget laptops will have worse QC and reliability compared to the more expensive ones.

If that's the case definitely agree on that. But i went for specs when I was comparing laptop. Battery life definitely suck

Have you even wonder why 2 laptop models with the same hardware specs can have twice the price difference? Choosing a laptop is not just specs, there are many things under the hood.

I've always looked at the general hardware, which I always prioritize over battery life, build quality, etc. Perhaps, an eye opening to me now. Hahaha
