QUOTE(Uluru @ Apr 13 2018, 11:29 PM)
I'm looking for a laptop for general usage, as well as for graphic designing and video editing. Would like to strike a balance between portability, battery life, and performance.

1. Preferred brand : HP/Asus/Lenovo
2. Budget : max RM3500
3. Usage : Photoshop, autoCAD, Illustrator, Video Editing
4. Screen Size : between 13.3 - 15.6 inch, prefer matt surface

I have shortlisted 4 laptops

Lenovo 320S - i5-8250U, 4GB SDDRM4, 256GB SSD, MX150, 13.3inch
RM3399
https://www.lelong.com.my/lenovo-ideapad-32...8-12-Sale-P.htm

cons: RAM is soldered, non-upgradable, no full SD card slot, outdated WLAN card (1x1)

HP Pavillion 15 CK063TX - i5-8250U, 4GB-DDRM4. 1TB-5400rpm, MX150, 15.6inch (glossy)
RM2899
https://www.lelong.com.my/hp-pavilion-15-ck...7-01-Sale-I.htm

cons: heaviest (1.86kg), shortest battery life, outdated WLAN card (1x1)

Asus S510U - i5-8250U, 4GB DDR4, 1TB 5400rpm, 940MX, 15.6inch, weight: 1.7kg
RM2999
https://www.lelong.com.my/asus-vivobook-s-s...8-05-Sale-P.htm

cons: inferior graphics card

Asus A510U - i7-8550U, 4GB DDR4, 1TB 5400rpm, MX130, 15.6inch, 1.5kg
RM3399
https://www.lelong.com.my/asus-vivobook-a51...7-01-Sale-I.htm

cons: inferior graphics card

Please provide some opinions. thanks

Real life use impossible 8 hours. 8 hours is just advertised battery life. Also unknown thermals, need to wait for reviews from good websites like NBC.
*
depends on how u set the power consumption profile la... the 8hrs they achieved is brightness 15% , processor n ram speed all cap at 35% tat kind of thing.. not the ordinary window battery mode can giv

Misconception. More heatpipes doesn't mean better cooling. Effectiveness of cooling depends on various factors like heatpipe design, type of fan, airflow of chassis etc.
*
but only 2 heat pipe sure the heat cant go off fast right

Mediocre CPU cooling, mediocre TN display despite '94% NTSC' colour coverage (tried it before) and slightly worse build quality compared to 7577.

Wow why is it such low price? Even with discount the AW13 is still more expensive than this price. Good laptop, just need some undervolting and maybe repaste due to small chassis.

Vostro 5471 has a poor TN panel and needs RAM+SSD upgrade. Inspiron 7460 has outdated CPU and needs RAM upgrade. Also 1 year warranty. Dell consumer Inspiron line (besides Inspiron Gaming) isn't worth it, higher price without gaining anything. There are better options at similar/lower price.

had u tried i5 8th gen n i5 7th gen on hand.. not much different for work lo.. n those MX 150 mostly over budget..

his usage for video editing.. not photo editing la.. color different not really affect his work

I've tried before. I didn't mention MX150, just saying 'optional GPU'. Still a good display is nice to have IMO, there's a huge difference between a poor TN vs entry level IPS.
*
inspiron 7577 screen is terrible lo.. i hvnt see a good IPS gaming laptop at 5k mark.. even alienware 15 r3 low end panel i oso tiu kao it

IPS panel in 7577 looks fine for me. Asus has some GL models with good IPS at that price range but they have mediocre cooling. HP Omen 15 (2017) also. From what I know the AW15 regular IPS panel has bleed issues.
