Btw..., want to ask you why u choose gtx 1050ti but the 2gb version instead of the 4gb...even mx150 has 2gb...and also why go 144hz panel as the gtx 1050ti cant really push the frame rates that high...,mostly will only stuck at 60 fps...unless it a full gtx 1060 like helios 300...No offense or anything...Just want to hear your opinion...
*
Wanted 144Hz because I only play esports games which can easily reach 144 FPS and I wanted high refresh rate for cheap. Went for 2GB because of budget constrains and 144Hz is only available with 1050TI (1050 is fine for me, my games run fine with 2GB VRAM)

Between Acer Nitro 5, Dell G3, Lenovo Y530, which one is a better choice? I kinda like Y530's thermal fan design.

Y530 is better, but not 'excellent'

Hello all~~~
Really need help please!

1. Budget :  RM 2k - 3k
2. Usage  : Heavy browsing, occasionally need to create VM using VMware on this machine for own testing purpose
3. Requirements : - display size => no preference
                          - battery life => normal lasting (doesnt need to be a deciding factor)
                          - weight => light weighted (because need to carry around frequently)
                          - disk space => ~1TB (doesnt need to be on ssd)
                          - RAM => 8GB (I supposed? Since I need to allocate about half the RAM to VM)
                          - processor => i7 (please don't bash me hahaha. I'm assuming I need i7 jer..please feel free to correct me)

Any recommendation? Thank youuuuu
*
You cannot choose CPU by looking at i5 or i7 only. Also, 16GB RAM is recommended for VM

Any range on battery life and weight?

Oops noted..what should I look at then? the GHz?
I dont have any preference on battery life. But weight I hope it can be a thin/slim laptop T_T

Teach me senpai!
*
Looking at GHz also wrong, you should look at the CPU model

I suggest you to get a laptop with powerful hardware since you don't really mind weight and battery life. Can go for CFL-H laptop (8300H, 8750H) like Acer Nitro 5 and HP Pavilion Gaming, but both of them need repaste+undervolt due to 'not so good' cooling. Upgrade RAM and SSD by yourself. If you're a student you can apply 15% discount and get Legion Y530

Hi Sifu, I went to browse around dell, hp and asus laptop and found that vivobook s15 has really nice finishing to its laptop exterior compare to others. Should I go for this laptop? I found there is an Asus gaming laptop at this price but without ssd. I am not using it for gaming but only office work, browsing, slight editing only.

Vivobooks are generally mediocre

Should I go for Dell? Looking at Inspiron with 15'6
*
Inspiron series is overpriced and not worth it IMO

What's your budget? Preferred max weight, display size and minimum battery life?

No weight concern, display 15'6, battery no concern also most of the time will be connected to plug

So you prefer Ultrabook/regular laptop or gaming/performance laptop?

Criteria for the laptop:
mainly for online download and browsing,
no gaming,
doing some words documents and
battery can last longer,
IPS screen, matte,  14 inches,
weight below 2kg,
budget below RM2500.
ram  at least 4gb,
Seldom carry around, just sit on the desk most of the time.

Thank you.

V310 is mediocre. Consider Ideapad 320s 14 (i5 8250U) with RAM+SSD upgrades

Dell Inspiron 7570 with RAM upgrade - small battery, good sRGB IPS panel
Lenovo Thinkpad L580 (8250U,8G,256G)
Lenovo Thinkpad E585 (2500U,8G,256G)
Lenovo Ideapad 530s 15 with RAM upgrade
Acer Swift 3 15 (8250U,8G,256G) - soldered RAM
HP Pavilion 15 cs0033tx with RAM+SSD upgrades - small battery

Is 14 inch OK to you?

530 no good huh? Really nice design though haha. Now 9.9 promo some gaming laptop falls under budget should i go for that? Or stick to regular ones, fyi I don't play games on them haha.
*
S530 has no reviews. Vivobooks are generally mediocre so...

If you don't play games then stick to regular ones

I saw this acer nitro 5 with 8gb ram and 120ssd at 3k, good deal? For long term use with no gaming lol

I found 1 inspiron 8gb ram and 120ssd at 3.4k, i7, amd 530 is it good?
*
Nitro 5 has CPU cooling issue, otherwise good value

Which Inspiron is that? I found that Inspiron series is priced too high and therefore not worth it

Out of those 3 I would choose the Pavilion. Inspiron 5000 and Vivobook aren't worth it
I would suggest upgrading RAM+SSD by yourself since it's usually cheaper

Alright thanks Sifu! Been helping me alot! Sorry to ask again any specific good ram or ssd to recommend?
*
RAM is RAM, any will do

SSD (120/128GB) in general look for those with 3D NAND (Samsung NAND too expensive) due to better reliability.

You have to settle down with non GTX laptops

If you want 15 inch, Acer Swift 3 15 with MX150, though it has low sRGB IPS panel

HP Envy 13 (with MX150 10W), Asus UX430UN and Asus UX331UN are priced slightly above 3.5k. You can also consider Thinkpad A485 with R5/R7 APU, though it only comes with low sRGB IPS panel

Make your decision and I'll let you know the cons of that model before making purchase

3. Requirements : screen - 13-14” , might consider 15.6”
nice to look at , youtube alot
                          weight : around MBA
                          battery life : >4hours

Main factors are weight (slim/portable) , battery life & not sluggish ( so atleast 8gb ram & i5 ?)
