Hi ZM, i'm not a student. Working right now.
budget less than 5k, if i can save more the better. No preference on max weight but battery life i would prefer at least 4 hours?

Thanks!

Are you fine with 1050TI?

Hi. I just bought HP Pavilion - 15-cs0033tx. Need to upgrade the SSD and RAM right? SSD i got one new which bought last year (SanDisk SSD Plus 240GB SSD (520MB/s - SDSSDA-240G-G25) ). This SSD suits right? The SSD is just for OS?

For the RAM, should i replace the existing 4GB RAM to 8GB RAM or keep the existing but add in another 4GB in another RAM slot? Sorry for my noob question as i never upgrade RAM before but i read somewhere if mixing the RAM sometimes it may not works.  blush.gif
*
That SSD uses 2.5 inch bay so you have to sacrifice the HDD. If you want to keep both HDD and SSD then buy a new M.2 one (SATA or NVMe doesn't matter)

If 8GB is enough for you then X2 4GB RAM, dual channel can provide slightly higher performance. RAM is RAM, just find the cheapest with same timings and frequency

Alright Thanks!
would you actually recommend the 4k screen?

and last but not least... would the X1 Carbon be better than XPS 13?
*
X1 Carbon has similar pros and cons compared to XPS 13, only noticeable difference is lower battery life (not 'bad' by any means). And much expensive. Comes with HDR option though.

Wouldn't recommend UHD display, 13 inch is really small, FHD is enough. If I remembered correctly the panel has glossy surface and slow response times

May i know the SSD just for install OS right? Movies, Documents, Programs all can be installed at HDD?

If so, i think 120GB is enough for me as i can put my things in HDD instead SSD. Budget less than RM200 for 120GB and RM350 for 240GB.
*
If you don't put a lot of large files (like me) then go for 240-256GB SSD (HDD as spare)

If you just want OS drive then 120/128GB

Which one you prefer?

Is 11" budget laptop like Asus vivobook E203M or Acer Aspire 3 A311 good enough for internet browsing, youtube, office works and casual gaming? I want to buy 11" laptop to replace my 6 years old netbook

If your budget is really low then go used

After looking around awhile, I found a few models which I would like some suggestions on.
Please note that I am considering the i5-8250U for all these models. And I am going to upgrade to 8gb ram for those 4gb models. I will also swap out HDD and insert my spare SSD.
I am mainly concern about heat (temperature issues? I scare kena overheat) , battery life, screen quality and brightness. I am ok with the weight of these models.

ASUS VivoBook S15 S530U (or UN?) - But I saw some review mention this has a very dim max brightness screen? 210nits
HP Pavilion - 14-ce0083tx
HP ENVY - 13-ah0041tx
ASUS ZenBook UX430U
Asus ZenBook UX331U (or UN?)

Originally I found HP Omen 15 (2018) which has impressive specs for the price? , but the weight is VERY heavy , so I crossed that off my list.
*
If Omen dc is considered heavy to you then gaming laptop is a no for you

S530 still have no reviews and considering that Vivobooks aren't great for the price, I wouldn't recommend it now

Envy 13 (old model also can), UX430UN and UX331UN are good choices. But they have cooling related issue (can only handle medium load)

Sorry i am quite confused here as i am newbie in tech. How do u mean by ''HDD as spare'' & ''OS Drive''?

Actually i will put a lot of movies in my laptop so i guess i should put them in HDD as SDD has low storage. So i thinking to use SSD to install only OS and HDD to put movies. Is that possible?

1 more question, the stock ram for HP PAVILION 15-CS0033TX is  samsung ddr4 2666MHz 19-19-19-43 but from website it stated 2400MHZ. So should i go for 2400 or 2666? The timings is not really important right? Thinking to get this https://www.lazada.com.my/products/kingston...s610253673.html
*
HDD spare means it's only used for small/not important things. Yeah you need HDD. Actually if you add a little more than rm200 you can get 240-256GB SSD

Check your RAM with software. If 2666MHz it should be CL19

Ok bro. Any recommendation for 240-256GB SSD? One of the forumer bought same laptop and he told me the stock RAM is 2666Mhz ( i5 8250u only supports 2400 though) but the website published 2400Mhz instead. Let say the stock RAM is 2666Mhz, should i get 2666 or 2400Mhz?
*
2400 or 2666 depends on region. Get the 2666

Kingston A1000 is a good budget choice

Bro, how about if 120GB SSD? Any recommended model? Any cons compared to 240GB SSD besides the storage capacity?
*
120/128GB isn't worth it TBH if you want a good 120/128GB SSD. Also worse endurance and performance

how does the pavilion 14 compare?
I think I am leaning towards envy 13, because it is cheaper compared to zenbook when comparing the same specs.
But I am still trying to figure the Wifi 2x2 and battery and screen comparison
*
New Pavilion 14 ce-tx is decent but not quite the level of Envy 13

Envy 13 and UX331 are very similar to each other including wireless, battery and display quality. I would say Envy 13 has slightly (just slightly) better build quality and uses glossy surface display

i suggest you get the latest a485 with the ryzen 5 pro. the model is using the same model like the t480 but the amd comes with better cpu.
*
A485 is available? FYI Ryzen mobile APUs need some requirements in order to perform correctly, not to mention the lower battery life

i do not aware of any ryzen 5 pro problems, did you have reviewed one?
*
If you dive deep about how Ryzen mobile APU works then you'll know what I'm talking about

Dual channel memory, bad firmware/BIOS, cooling solution, worse battery life (fan related)

Hi guys,

First post here despite lurking for many years. Does anyone know when exactly the rest of the new HP Envy 13 range will be available?
So far only 2 models - 8th Gen i5 and i7 with the MX150 GPU are available and both are in Silver  bangwall.gif  But I saw the Pale Gold models
on display in Singapore and it is absolutely beautiful. Just got tired of talking to HP Malaysia as they either tell you it's launching end
AUG / early SEP or we have no idea the next moment.

Cheers,
VaN

Aesthetic reasons, bro - I know I'm being lame but I like the new design cues better. Less sharp edges and it looks much
more refined. Tried out the display unit in S'pore - fit and build quality is better and the full HD screen is slightly brighter
compared to the current AD series. The Spectre x360 is also another option I'm looking at - need to get a work notebook
soon to replace my old Vostro 14 ..

Cheers,
VaN
