Hello guys..
I'm looking for a new laptop.. Very Urgent! Tomorrow need to buy.. My current laptop Acer Aspire 4738G (bought in 2010) keep shutdown less than 1 minute after switched on.. Already service and replaced thermal paste (MasterGel by Cooler Master), but condition still same.. That guy (FR Laptop service) told me to try replace AMD graphic card but it takes time and cost me around min RM400.. So decided to buy new one.. 1. Preferred brand : Any 2. Budget : Less than RM2500 (can go up to RM3000) 3. Usage : Video Editing, Online Video/Movie streaming, multi tasking, office paperwork, web browsing, watching movie, sometime use Photoshop (not into gaming at all) 4. Screen Size : 13" or 14" inch (try not so heavy d/t frequent travelling by airasia with no luggage) 5. Extras: light weight, long daily usage (up to 12 hours a day) If you can point any seller at Lowyat it's better.. Thanks.. |

QUOTE(Romeo Darius @ Apr 18 2018, 06:14 PM) 1. Preferred brand : Any Tbh, your budget is a bit low for your requirements. Consider bumping up to 3k-3.5k for best performance. I would suggest Acer Spin 5 13, one of the good budget laptops you can buy. 8250U, 8GB RAM (not upgradable, common in 13 inch), 256GB SSD, good touchscreen 13 inch IPS panel. Good battery life and good build quality, portable too. Comes with 2 in 1 form factor too. Keep in mind that it needs undervolting for better CPU performance. The old Spin 5 is awful but the new model has improved in many aspects. I suggest buying from Brightstar.2. Extras: light weight, long daily usage (up to 12 hours a day) If you can't bump the budget anymore, go for Ideapad 320s 14 with 8250U+920MX, however you need to manually upgrade RAM and SSD. Good build quality and battery life, portable. From what I know it uses IPS panel but I'm not 100% sure, try it out in stores. This post has been edited by ZM Fong: Apr 18 2018, 06:44 PM |

In fact no one can guarantee reliability, it depends on luck. Take a look at Thinkpad E480 with 8250U, no dGPU, comes with 3 year warranty.1. Preferred brand : Any brand as long as is reliable 2. My brother is looking at this HP Pavilion 15 CK063TX.
In the spec sheet it says it comes with 15.6" diagonal FHD IPS BrightView WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080). So is it IPS display with LED backlit? I'm confused. Anyway he's looking for something similarly priced - currently with this base model he is going to upgrade to 16GB (2*8GB) and add on SSD 250GB Overall specs: 15.6" FHD 16GB RAM 250GB SSD + 1TB HDD MX150 2GB 3 cell 41Wh battery Anything else around the same price? Picked this due to - battery life and good looking bezel. Budget around 3.5k-4k. Hoping to get an IPS + SSD + 16GB RAM |

Sellers top recommendation is Lenovo Ideapad 320S (14").. Yes it use IPS panel.. The cons is I need to top up money to install extra 128 GB PCIe SSD.. If I upgrade 128 SSD, do I need to upgrade RAM up to 8GB too? or just ok? Total cost for 128 SSD and upgrade to 8 GB RAM is around RM2900.. just 100 below top budget.. One more thing Brightstar don't have this laptop. If you know best shop to get, do inform me.. I need to buy this today for sure.. This post has been edited by Romeo Darius: Apr 19 2018, 09:50 AM |

QUOTE(ZM Fong @ Apr 19 2018, 10:16 AM) 8GB RAM is needed. No need PCIe SSD, a good SATA SSD will do just fine. What's the battery capacity? 30Wh or 52Wh? not sure about battery..dun ask.. it just stated up to 12 hours.. one big issue for Lenovo Ideapad 320 is noisy fan.. I just did some research on lenovo official forum.. a lot of users experience this.. it said 320 and not 320s.. but since it arrangement and specs little bit same.. so the sound problem might occur too.. QUOTE What i found about this lenovo ideapad 320 by using it and also watching some guys on youtube disassembling it which made me able to observe it inside of it was that the cooling system IS great but unfortunately it`s not great enough to sustain both chips (Geforce and I7 Intel) under heavy load in a TOP COOL temperature . I am not saying it`s not able to cool them. What i am saying is that the fan has to spin a lot in order to keep the temperature cool, because of the thermal demand, and the temperature does get closer to the limit, although not reaching and getting past it. Intel i7 processors IMHO are one of the culprits. They come with those turbo options, which gives them the ability to get higher frequencies(almost 1 GHZ more), but also demand a lot, a lot, a lot of heat dissipation. So the cooling system suffers. Keep in mind that the cooling system is simple, they(both CPu and GPU) share the same heat pipe and exhaust. So if you are playing a heavy game, with i7 turbo on….. geforce may not be getting any hot, but the heat produced by i7 turbo is so high that it makes geforce chip gain like 7 or so celsius. If you have your windows power options set to high performance, you should take a look into processor option and limit it to 99% (which is going to avoid turbo from turning on). This will keep Intel cooler, or if you are more worried (like me) set it to lower values. I am not saying the cooling system fails to cool the system. What I am saying is that it could be better. I am also not saying that you are risking losing your laptop, but you are sure decreasing its lifetime. It`s not Lenovo`s fault either. They receive those chips and all they do is install it and sometimes they don’t imagine such a thermal demand….. This post has been edited by Romeo Darius: Apr 19 2018, 10:39 AM |

Undervolting should solve the problem. Better than silent fans and let the inner components burn.I just did some research on lenovo official forum.. a lot of users experience this.. |

QUOTE(mastermindsos @ Apr 19 2018, 03:08 PM) AMD last gen APU performs badly and runs hot as well as the new RX GPUs. Aspire 5 has OKish cooling so putting these together will be a disaster. Also TN panel.Aspire E14 has 768p TN panel, small battery, mediocre cooling and reliability concerns (internal design hasn't change for years). Putting a DVD drive inside such form factor isn't a great idea (too many sacrifices), also loud noise under load. 4GB RAM and HDD will struggle in Windows 10. Especially HDD. What's your usage? |

My point B is not E14 but E5. I read your review about this specific model I think.Aspire E14 has 768p TN panel, small battery, mediocre cooling and reliability concerns (internal design hasn't change for years). All rounder usage, I expect to run latest games on low graphic setting. I see some laptops that boast high battery life, more than 7 hours but with hd graphics 620. I guess this is not enough to run games? |
