MSI GS65 is good coz slim & 8 hours battery...
*
Real life use impossible 8 hours. 8 hours is just advertised battery life. Also unknown thermals, need to wait for reviews from good websites like NBC.

Most laptopmag stuffs are BS. Irrelevant. Only look NBC, Ultrabookreview, Laptopmedia (sometimes not good) and NBR forums.

I wonder how would Illegear Onyx fare with the MSI GS65.
*
Cooling and build quality of the Onyx are good from China reviews, it's based on Mechrevo Z2. GS65 still lacking a proper review.

u check how many heat pipe inside u agak agak know the thermal control de... less than 3 for gtx 1050ti is not enuf..
*
Misconception. More heatpipes doesn't always mean better cooling. Effectiveness of cooling depends on various factors like heatpipe design, type of fan, airflow of chassis etc.

1. Preferred brand : Asus maybe, nice design
2. Budget : below 3k
3. Usage : general usage. web browsing, streaming. college.
4. Screen Size : 14''
is ultrabook good for long term?
*
You need a good CPU for streaming like 8250U, however there is only one 'good enough' option:
Lenovo Ideapad 320S 14 - i5-8250U, 4GB, 1TB HDD, 920MX GDDR5
Need RAM and SSD upgrade too.

1. OP only mentioned 'maybe light gaming like Dota', read carefully
2. There's no Envy 15
3. Acer Aspire E15 has mediocre battery life and mediocre cooling due to DVD drive inside. Also QC issues since the internal design hasn't change for a long time.
3. Ideapad 720s 13 with R5 2500U has inconsistent CPU performance and mediocre battery life. Also the soldered 4GB RAM will struggle.

7100U enough for movies. HP Pavilion and Asus Vivobook generally have mediocre build quality and battery life.

1. Preferred brand : Any
2. Budget : less than 2.5k
3. Usage : office paperwork, web browsing, watching movie, sometime use Photoshop
4. Screen Size : 14" inch
5. Extras: lightweight, good after sales service.
*
Budget is a bit tight so you have to sacrifice performance like CPU, RAM and SSD.
1. Lenovo Ideapad 320s 14 - 8250U+920MX GDDR5
2. Lenovo Yoga 520/510 with i3
13 inch:
1. Acer Spin 5 13 with i3
2. Asus Zenbook UX330CA
3. Acer Swift 1
No one can guarantee good aftersales service as this mainly depends on luck.

2. Budget : RM3k-4k
3. Usage : Photoshop and design purpose, Gaming too (looking for a laptop that not easily overheating when heavy on gaming)
Gaming type: Recent new games, can run gta5 in high settings.

Thanks!
*
Photoshop needs a good display. If you need a laptop that has good cooling and can run GTA 5 high settings, Dell 7577 or Lenovo Y520, however they only have entry level IPS panel. You may want to bump up your budget or, sacrifice video settings in games.

Nope, this model is mediocre. Ideapad 320s 14, not 320s 13.

Welcome. Make sure it's the 14 inch model not 13 inch, the 13 inch one has a better display but worse battery life and cooling.

Wait for refreshed models with CFL-H. Also make sure you have at least 8GB RAM and SSD.

Mediocre CPU cooling, mediocre TN display despite '94% NTSC' colour coverage (tried it before) and slightly worse build quality compared to 7577.

All have mediocre cooling when equipped with 1060 GPU. Also poor TN panel in MSI GL and GP. What's your budget and what are your requirements?

About how much more I need to top up and what brand/model would I be able to get?

At least 3k. Brand is less relevant, choose model not brand.
