I use TP-Link router from Unifi. At home, I use an app from TP-Link called "Tether" to access and make changes to the router since my phone is connected to the house wifi.

How do I control my router if I am outside? Primarily, I need it to cut Internet access to selected gadgets the kids are using.

(I humbly request to use simpler, less technical language to explain).

Many thanks.

Less technical, I'd say ask any adult at your home to do it. Give them the simplest instruction as possible.

This one is simplfied. But you'd be better off if you can learn some specific technical terms, like DDNS, WAN IP, etc.

The simplest solution is:
You can install teamviewer app to your mobile or to your office pc.
You must also install it to your home pc. (this home pc must be running)
Then use that teamviewer app on your mobile to connect to home pc.
After it is connected, you may use that home pc remotely to connect to the router by using the web browser.

But the best solution is the one posted by member @dtdw.

I subscribed (paid) to this app. But it's very laggy because it uses VPN. In the end, I stopped using.

Turn on your home computer, use Teamviewer, connect to your home computer from your device at outside then tweak from there.

If I'm not mistaken, you can use mobile teamviewer as well.

Yes, and keep it connected to internet. Set a fixed password for it, so that it won't refresh with a new password.

What router are you using? If it's TP-Link C1200. The easiest way:

1. Setup DDNS
2. Setup VPN on the C1200
3. Connect to the C1200's VPN when you're outside
4. Use the Tether app as if you're in the house.

*only if you're on Android. iPhone won't work since the C1200 doesn't have a suitable VPN for the iPhone.
