Hi there,

Wondering if any of you guys can give me some feedback, criticism, or thoughts on my website?

Much appreciated thanks. Would like to improve it in terms of use and wondering if the design works or not.

Thanks again!

sweat.gif dunno wat to say....
can start out by changing the logo...the "i" looks fat. and IMO try not to use more than 2 type face on a logo design..

and why the url is terenteh.com but the site name is "Projekt i Designs"?

I'm not going to give comment on the logo as I believe that the logo representing your characteristic and potraying the personality of your company or yourself.

Anyway after reviewing your main website and also some of your portfolio, I'm going to be very honest with you and I want to give a out a few pointers. First of all I notice that your design is too template. First impression when I opened your website is "taken from a free template website?" and then I saw the tag powered by WordPress. If you want to portray yourself as a designer, you really need to crank up the creativity juice and make your website stand out. It doesn't have to be a full Flash website with 101 gizmo, but a more simple yet interesting design would be fine. rolleyes.gif

2ndly, when I clicked on your "Malaysian Singaporean Students Association - University of Toronto" I notice that you tend to over use your effect such as drop shadow, stroke and etc..etc.. Remember, when applying effects into your design is like a lady applying makeup onto her face. You wouldn't want your lady to apply over extensive makeup right? It would make her face look rather fake and like a Chinese opera singer right? doh.gif
Just apply a sensible amount of effect will do. Enough to let it blend it naturally with the design. Don't over overdo it to force people to notice that you a layer of shadows on your design. rclxub.gif

Anyway that is my 2 cents comment blush.gif , hope you don't feel offended after reading this as design is one's own creativity and there is no right or wrong to it. Totally based on one own's individual taste. Cheers mate~! thumbup.gif

Teren, attached is my modification to your site on how i feel it would look better.

i'm sorry that i did not ask your permission before doing so, but i feel that it would help me illustrate my thoughts better.

firstly - too much white-space / blank areas

secondly - too many gray lines / areas / shades.

thirdly - could use light shade for text

fourthly - is there a need to use wordpress?

take note of what balthazer mentioned too. wink.gif

I see I see.. yes I agree with you. Since the website was developed about a year plus ago, I think I learnt quite a lot more in a year. But we shall see? tongue.gif I guess the shadows were too visible right? Don't worry. No offence taken. Just wanting to get some good solid feedback.. especially criticism because only then can it be better right? Thanks!!

It's ok Goldfries, feel free to do what you think is best. smile.gif

I have to admit.. I initially designed everything in HTML but I guess I was in abit of a rush to get everything up and running. I spent hours and hours on the design which looked similar to this but had tabs and so on..but I was in the midst of applying for a student job and so I needed to speed things up. I used Wordpress for the ease to allow me to update? I wasn't sure to be honest which language to use. Normally do you guys use php? I guess I shouldn't use a CMS for my portfolio then?

I definitely do have the intent of changing the design of the website.. and quite simply the name of it as well. Found that after typing out "Projekt i Designs" .. the "i" is so tiny and can hardly been seen!!

To be honest, I don't quite like the design too tongue.gif Can clearly see that the effects of rush work means comes out crap.

Thanks to all of you for your very good feedback!! Thank you thank you! notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

In terms of web design, I think some improvements still can be made. The menu is a tad small and it's all the way to the right. Not very visible. Is there a reason your top banner (red area) is empty?

I'm looking at a white space on the right side.

I like what goldfries did and I think if you don't have that much content in the meantime, you could go with a 'skinny' website.

Besides that, I don't think I could advise much more. hmm.gif

Skinny website? Do you mean one that's got less width and more length and centered?

I intended for say white tabs for my links in the red area on top..but then I guess I didn't have enough time since the deadline to submit resume for student job came so close.

Good points. I agree that it's too small. The fonts might not be very visible either.

How do you guy's choose a name or design a logo? I thought of T Bone Studios instead of Projekt i Designs. (since it's my nickname) ..but then I'm thinking of cutting out one letter "words" in the name.

in my opinion, your website is simple... less graphic, more on content i guess... but i guess you should emphasize on graphics la since you do design and stuffs... for a website developer and graphic designer portfolio's, it should me more creative and interactive... put more fun into your website... biggrin.gif

to be honest, it lacks the 'oomph' .
If you are selling creativity, then your sites should speaks creativity.

it is too simple and clean. It might be good, unless your portfolio are more colorful. Right now, the portfolio looks as simple as your main site. So, it doesnt show anything.

what lil twist mention about the site being simple wasn't a complaint. smile.gif

it's not wrong to be simple in design. it's all a matter of preference, i personally don't like sites that are too fancy. they can be rather distracting and quite often used as something to 'hide' the lack of content.

THanks for all the comments. I'm beginning to design a new one with hopefully more oomph but still keeping it clean, simple and most of all usable. Thank you guys so much, really appreciate it and don't worry about me being offended. As long as you state why you don't like it, I will take it constructively. This is all part of user testing right? Good to know what works and what doesn't.

I can see that I will have to attempt to pull off something that's but not lacking in the wow factor. I guess right now simple was the thing.. but the wow is not there.. and yes, you guys are right. After thinking about it, it certainly does not show anything creative.. too structured.

I don't really know why I used Projekt. LOL. I just thought it'd be cool to put a swedish word in there since they are known to be good designers.

But I'm thinking of changing the name. And redesigning the logo. And the site as well so hope you guys can help me to compare the difference?

Thanks again!!

Ok the main point of the website is to catch the attention of people who are looking for web designers. If I'm a potential client, and I come across your site, I will not engage you at all. In fact I'd be surprised how you could be a web designer. The page is just too boring, nothing tells me why you're good at what you do and nothing spells creative. Everything looks amateurish. And the logo well.......also I'll vote T Bone over Projekt i anytime.

I'm not criticizing nor discrediting you as a web designer, I'm just giving you a viewer's point of view so that you can improve on your design(which I think you're doing). And I admire the positive attitude you carry when you take criticism and negative feedback well. smile.gif

Tips: Do more look & feel, normally i would do at least 10 diff designs while 3 - 5 diff color schemes that makes it to 30 - 50 samples. From there u will really improve from each design to the next.
