Yea ,I also missing background with HOME menu overlay ....
And with Tools button grey setting area is wider then previous.

I don't like this Android 8.0 main menu... is there a way to go back to Android 7.0? Before this update, I can conveniently press home button once in a while to see the time which is overlay on top of what I am watching. Now it totally cuts out the show. Kinda not so convenient anymore.

Hi, this is a different model. Notice the model number ends with ...6500x and not 6800x. 6500x is a non-android smart tv which you cannot install other program. Now there's sales on www.goshop.com.my . you can get one at less than RM3050 after 10% discount.

6800x model also comes with more powerful picture processing capabilities and better sound as stated in their specs. Although I think if you get a 6500x, you can still source for a good Android box to complement it.

android8 update comes with a new security patch.

if u r using androidtv apps a lot, better update.

update also handle sideloads better, less troublesome, more optimized.

This update block 3rd party APP (VLC/Archos or etc) from reading data / file from external hardisk.
Can I downgrade back to my existing firmware ...?

Yes, this update android8 does not allow u to read ext hdd with vlc, archos, kodi direct.

It was the same with old model android5 and 6.

Android7 allowed it but it is unlcear why that was so.


Still, not all is lost. For playback, u still can:

.. use tv native player app.
.. use es file explorer, choose play with vlc, audio is aac2.0 whatever file.
.. use es file explorer, choose play with kodi; if pass thru and transcoding set, u get dolby 5.1.

No easy wasy to return to android7... u shud contact sharp service, see if they do it for u.

Even es file can’t read my hard disk file.

I have also report to sharp and they will change the board that have previous firmware

And i notice the original file explore that come with android can read the file... however, some codec is not support... is there anyway i can install codec

Let us know how they revert back to Android 7 and how to request.
I have also many files in my PC, using es file explorer or VLC to connect...now all gone...

Somehow I managed to enter my shared files on PC , by reinstalling es file explorer (Network=>LAN) in TV.

esf can read... but... i do not know if is restricted to <1TB or <1.5TB.

if sharp is willing to change the board and u want it, can do.

better that than trying cracked/modified sideloads that may brick the TV (tv is a few K rm, not a few hundred rm!).

only thing is there will come a time when u will be "forced" to update to android8, failing which certain apps will not work, e.g. netflix.

also a possibility of a silent auto security patch that will mess things up for u again, as seen with predecessor ue630x android5->6.

all these "trouble", changes, restrictions are due to google's androidtv dev, their way of doing things.

android8 reached 8.1 but apparently no device has adopted it yet, only 8.0 is used by some.

some androidtv devices incl some sony tv's have not even got to android8.0, still on 7, while android9.0 pie was launched last month.


finally, my attitude towards playback has always been this:

tv makers shud make good displays, androidtv is an excellent bonus.

but i will not count on the tv for files playback.

if i have spent thousands if not tens of thousands of rm on a tv-home theater-connectivity-networking, i will spend a bit on a standalone, reliable, versatile and superb video-audio output quality box player.

Yes, I compared the 6800X and 6500X side by side at ESH SS2 before deciding, the video on the 6800x has more depth compared to 6500X

Me! But I didn't get this TV, cause it only support DD and DTS.

Though AVFAN did mention that sound output still possible from files coded in DD+/Atmos/DTS-HD and etc, if you use Kodi.

android7 was easier... kodi could read ext hdd, playback any file, give up to dd5.1 audio if passthru n transcoding set on.

recent android8 update messed it up, need to go thru es file explorer, choose kodi player to get there.

above is for component home theater.

HITB or soundbar - no idea... i usually do not comment on things i hv not used before...

How's the sound quality? Is it only suitable for certain room shape & size?

Do you think rooting Android 8 will bring back the goodies like in Android 7?
