That's normal. I believe what you've downloaded are in .DMG format (a type of disk image file).
By default, Safari will open certain file type once it's completed downloading.
The moving bar you saw are actually the progress of verifying the download and mounting the DMG file. Once successfully mounted, Safari then remove the original compressed file leaving the DMG alone. You can disable this by looking into Safari Preferences.

Added on April 27, 2007, 10:42 pmOh BTW, next time, take it steadily, your iMac wont explode just like that.
You no need to scream and yelling like the end of the world (making yourself looks like a donkey). Just post you problem in a more organized way. It help ppl to understand and eventually helping ppl to reply you correctly.

If anything goes wrong, there's still 1 year warranty. enjoy ur mac.

I don't see any point to alter the permission.

Launch Terminal

Type this

sudo diskutil repairpermissions /

Or just do like the rest said and repair permissions. If that fails , its time to update the prebindings...There are some frontends for it but I still prefer the good old terminal

actually you can just copy and paste that into Termianl and hit "enter".
