Not recommended travel multicities. Vacation should be hassle free

Lol... I’m asking for advice on whether I should arrive in New Chitose and depart Tokyo and travel in between via Shinkansen/train, not whether it’s hassle free or not sweat.gif doh.gif

aren't this depends on your preference? its doable. that's why they do sell JR pass that covers from tokyo to hokkaido
*
Preference is also tied to budget, 14 days JR pass is almost as expensive as the air ticket sweat.gif
Plus there’s no direct Shinkansen from Tokyo to Sapporo, overall it will take almost 8hours

Quite obvious isnt it, if your question is not about hassle free or not.
You have already make plans on your travel, so whats the point of going back to Chitose to fly back. So what do you really want to know?
*
Sorry let me explain
I just want to know what’s the best plan if I were to spend 15 days (9 days Hokkaido and 6 days Tokyo including 2 days Disneyland)?
I’m doing multicity it’s just because My son wants to experience the Shinkansen but that comes at the expense of 1 day spent on just train rides, I’m sure he’ll like it but 8 hours seems like an overkill?
But if I don’t do it, I won’t be able to fit in a Shinkansen ride anywhere in my itinerary
The shortest Shinkansen ride I think is Hakodate to Aomori, with that I might as well take all the way to Tokyo bangwall.gif
Any suggestions?

Do day trip from Tokyo to Yokohama and take that Shinkansen lo.

some forums said no feel due to short distance... i might stick to initial plan then, air to New Chitose and train back to Tokyo

thanks for the suggestion though, made me look at the Tokyo - Osaka route as well but that will be in another trip i guess

Assuming that you have fix your trip to both Hokkaido and Tokyo, I guess your plan is pretty much good. Cause you still need to get to Tokyo and the other way is to fly from Sapporo. As others have suggessted, take a short trip around Tokyo area. You can even take a trip to Karuizawa using the Tokyo WIde pass which is about 2 hours journey and spend a day there.

thanks for the suggestion smile.gif

tweaking it a bit after reading more of other people's blogs, planning end April-early May where there's no snow nor pink moss nor lavender:
day 1 arrive Hokkaido
day 2 Sapporo
day 3 Asahikawa day trip
day 4 Sapporo to Otaru
day 5 Otaru
day 6 Otaru
day 7 Otaru to Noboribetsu (~3 hours)
day 8 Noboribetsu
day 9 Lake Toya day trip
day 10 Noboribetsu to Hakodate ~(2.5 hours)
day 11 Hakodate to Tokyo (~6 hours)
day 12 Tokyo
day 13 Tokyo - Disneyland
day 14 Tokyo - Disneysea
day 15 Tokyo
day 16 depart Tokyo

Trying to do 3 nights in Sapporo, Otaru and Noboribetsu each... added another day to accommodate all the train rides...
The thing i am unsure is whether:
1. 1.5-2 days in Sapporo is enough - there's nothing much there aside from the beer factory
2. 3 nights in Noboribetsu too much?
3. 1-1.5 days in Hakodate enough - the reason this is here is because of the train to Tokyo

Too much at Otaru
Btw, you no need to overnight at Otaru, Just depart from Sapporo morning and back to Sapporo at Night. 1 full day at Otaru enough cover it all.
Even Furano at April no lavender, but those Hokkaido sweet corn & fruit still worth to visit at Tomita Farm
*
which town has more food? initially put Otaru more because there seems to be more good food there when i googled

Farm Tomito is a bit out of the way, train takes almost 4 hours, is it worth it to rent a car and drive 1.5 hours just to go there?

Otaru more like craft town and alot more on dessert and bakery
Asahikawa more like hunter, more towards meat side. (Santouka Ramen born place)
Hakkodate more on western because early age open port to west.
Sapporo got overall of all food. It still got biggest fish market at Hokkaido.

If you want eat best Corn ever taste in your life, it worth to visit Tomita. It also got 2nd best melon too.

Best Melon in World still at Xinjiang, China

hmmm... interesting... do you have any car rental recommendation?
i saw that a Toyota Yaris equivalent comes out cheaper than taking JR 7 day Hokkaido pass!
that's going to save me quite a lot of train rides!

seems like the farm is pretty much closed except for lavender ice cream from Oct to May, no point going laugh.gif

Nippon rent a car and Toyota rent a car
This 2 are my usual one. Very reliable.

Since going as family size, car renting are more bettter option plus april, no icing road.

thanks bro, any hotel recommendations for Sapporo, Noboribetsu and Hakodate?

So my suspicion was correct, you ARE trying to cheat the hotel. For this sort of hotel that clearly charges extra for 2pax in the same room, if both of you turn up at the front desk you will likely be charged for your 2nd guest.

If you insist on going along with this penipu scammer arrangement anyway, then during check in / check out, you go to the front desk alone and ask your wife hide somewhere else in the lobby or outside the hotel first lo.

Note that many business hotels have really small lobby areas and the guest lifts may even be in full view of the front desk.

since we are on this topic, i am also trying to find information on hotels as i have 2 adults and a kid below 6...
Japan treats kids above 6 as adults and depending on situations, it will be either half price or full price...
the issue here is between 5-6 yo, I can't seem to find a clear answer on how hotels are charging...
i only know for Noboribetsu, most of the hotels charge half price for kids as they provide meals and beds

We travel around with my boy since he was 3yrs old. Every online booking, we will indicate 2 adults n 1 child (provide age info). We don't really bother if they charge for the kid or not, just to make sure stress free for a vacation. And if any argument on hotel arrangement, with a booking properly said number of pax will always win. Recent trip, we booked a suite room in a osaka hostel. Booking indicated 2 single bed + 1 sofa bed for us 2 adults + 11yr old child. When we were there, the reception behave as in not expecting 3pax. When I insist we booked for 3pax and it mentioned sofa bed, she insist they only have sofa in the room, not sofa bed. Anyway, I don't care, and tell her my boy can have the sofa...or whatever, we just want our room without extra charge as my booking is accurate, hotel info misleading. In the end, they setup the sofa bed for us. Guess what, it really is sofa bed in the room. But don't know why they try to be funny with us.

For Japan, it is better to get a bed space for each pax. Unless you go for premium hotel or you all really small built. As you don't really know if their bed big enough to share.

Thanks for the details bro thumbup.gif
Me last travel was Airbnb so we didn’t have issues, never been to japan so it’s good to know how the hotels work there
Thanks again!

anyone traveled with a kid before via rented car on these cities Sapporo/Otaru/Asahikawa/Noboribetsu/Hakodate (pickup from Sapporo and drop off at Hakodate) then take Shinkansen to Tokyo?

Couldn't make out which is the better option, for a 14 days trip, whether to rent a car for the first 7 days and JR pass for the next 7 or just 14 days JR pass?
The JR pass is essentially used for the Hakodate-Tokyo shinkansen and Tokyo to Maihama (Disneyland), better off to get the single trip tickets?
