Is my itinerary too pack?and Beside that any suggestion place that can visit around Sapporo for my Day 9, does not have to be sapporo, can be reduce to only 2 night at sapporo?

Hi, I can only share my limited experience (visited Summer 2017). Can't comment on the driving part since I used buses and trains when I was there, but I do remember thinking that Hokkaido is huge....and it takes a few hours to travel from city to city.

For Sapporo, keep in mind that Mt. Moiwa may have a lot of people if you decide to go at night for the views. For your 9th day, what do you like to do? Shopping? Strolling around parks?

Yup, aware that need few hour to travel thus staying in multiple hotel to reduce the distance to drive.

Is the night view worth it? Saw alot comment that it is too crowded to actually enjoy the night view. For 9th day, some shopping and see if there is any more interesting place to visit around sapporo +- 1hour of driving is fine.
1) Yeap, will be picking up from airport.

2) Is there any interesting place around lake toya to spend more time there? Main purpose is on the night firework and I'm thinking to leave around 9am next morning to Otaru after breakfast. I expecting to reach Asahikawa late evening/night and I'm going for airbnb it should be okay if I discuss with the host earlier. Do Otaru worth to spend a night there? From numerous blog it seems a very relax place with nice cafe and the otaru canal at night seem nice during winter but I'm not sure during summer will it look normal  laugh.gif

3) Yeap, so I stay one night at Tomamu to avoid waking up at 2am to drive to Tomamu for Unkai Terrace. Agree with you, we try not to rush the itinerary also but Do you think my itinerary now is rush to cover all the attraction?

4) Oh, is it really easy to commute within sapporo? If easy, I might return the rental car on the day we reach Sapporo. Thanks for the info, that's interesting so I guess 4D3N at sapporo is sufficient.

Thanks!

The night view over Sapporo is really nice...but yes it was super crowded when I was there. Luckily I hiked up in the afternoon and I found a spot while it was still empty to catch the sunset + night views. If you're worried about the crowds but still want night views over a city, may I suggest Mt. Tengu in Otaru? Not as many lights as Otaru is smaller in size compared to Sapporo, but the view of the port + city, and less crowds was worth it to me smile.gif

With regards to point (2), I personally wished I stayed the night in Otaru (maybe next time hehe) I very much wanted more time to walk around the city and enjoy the cafes, plus I wanted to travel up to the aquarium, but lack of time + coincided with the festival.

For point (4), yes it's really easy to navigate within Sapporo. Most of the city can be accessed by public transport. Some places further out may only be accessed by bus though.

Ok, great. If that's the case I maybe add 1 night at Otaru and went for Mt. Tengu and for Sapporo just see if it's crowded on the day. I guess if the ropeway is crowded, the top should be crowded right?

Oh, then that should be fine since last 2-3 days just gonna be in Sapporo wont be going further than Sapporo. By the way, my flight on last day is 9.20AM AAX, which public transport is available in morning to New Chitose Airport?

Thank you so much for the details information  smile.gif  biggrin.gif

For the ropeway, yeah it should be the case...crowds at the bottom = crowds at the top

From Sapporo Station to New Chitose you can take the train. I think the first train is at 6am. You can check hyperdia or the New Chitose Airport webpage for train timings. smile.gif

First reaction to your itinerary....wow that's alot of driving around.... smile.gif
What do you plan to do in the 2nd half of your trip? You just put in the locations where you'll be.

For day 7 when you pass by Sapporo and visit Hokkaido Uni, maybe you can slot it in day 12 and 13 when you're in Sapporo (unless your schedule is full then)

Just my thoughts smile.gif

Thanks for the reply  notworthy.gif Appreciate.
Ya, our 2nd half of itinerary not complete yet, I basically break it into 2 parts - Northern & Southern Hokkaido.
Before continuing, I'm thinking to post it to forum to get any advise on the itinerary so far. My bad, maybe I should at least complete it.

Ultimate Objective is like enjoying the scenery as we love to take photos - such as Biei land structure scenery, Mt. Asahidake snow, waterfalls, etc. Also to enjoy the famous spots in Hokkaido and their nice food.

The idea of the traveling is because we want to go to these places, but some places such as Takinoue Park which is the Pink Moss, I wonder if its still available to view in late Oct, so otherwise no choice, need to skip it. Then we wanted to visit Shiretoko 5 Lakes for its scenery, then to Lake Akan area also for scenery. So that the basis idea of these destination.
Is it a lot of driving around? But without the driving, how to visit all these destination? Or I packed too many destination in this Hokkaido trip?

For the 2nd half, its still not complete yet. For the day 7, I'm still thinking if wanted to drop by Sapporo, then reason to drop by to Hokkaido University is because I worried I may late to its Autumn colors I i come back at later date, but at the same time, I want to put the Sapporo at end of travel cos I'm thinking to return the rental car ealier and we do not need to rent car in Sapporo.

Will research and complete the 2nd Half and repost.

Well, that's just from my point of view haha....I'm an old guy that doesn't like to drive tongue.gif
You can google drive times and distances between destinations to see if it's alright for you.

For the first half of your itinerary, everyday a different location seems rushed?

Thanks for your reply. Regarding the SIM cards, it’s a bit confusing and hope someone can help me out.

(1) from some travel blogs, they mentioned to get SIM cards from Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) instead of directly from the mobile provider to save cost. Examples of MVNOs are Mobal and Japan Tourism Sim. Any suggestion?

(2) another one I’ve found is Japan Welcome Sim from this website https://wow-j.com/en/sp/sim_wifi/. It looks affordable. Has anyone tried it?

Thanks.

Just to chime in on your first point. I used a SIM card from freetel when I was in Sapporo last year. No issues even when I went to Furano and Hokuryu. I tried googling for the sim card link for you, but I think they discontinued it. There are others though, you can probably find one that'll suit your needs by googling smile.gif
