Hey guys, I'm planning to go skiing in Japan next year either in march or later in the year like December.
Anyone got any opinion about skiing in Furano? The idea is to spend about 7 to 10 days in Hokkaido, based in Furano, mixing skiing with sightseeing in surounding areas (tbc).
Really enjoying reading v10 thread btw, but only up to August posts on page 33.

Thanks for your indepth reply. Will keep the benchmark in mind.
I too would follow this approach of changing little by little when visiting a foreign country.
This is applies to the whole nation of Japan? Or like in Malaysia some area/state only off.

The list is for national holidays in Japan.

Hi guys, I'm getting different feedback from my friend that is now in Japan.

Some say is cold, some said just nice. I was wondering what should I prepare to wear? I don't wanna overpack.

Curious on how many layer to wear on day and night. There's heater in the hotel, so do we still need to wear long sleeve and long pants to sleep?

Depends on your cold tolerance, i guess. Have you been to cold countries before? Unless it's very windy or very very low temperatures, heat tech undershirt, shirt, fleece and wind proof jacket should be enough. Jeans with or without Lycra leggings should also be warm enough unless you get wet.
Key to comfort is layering and taking them off or putting them on depending on the conditions.

In all my years, studying and loving in the UK, never had a pair of long Johns but i don't mind the cold.
Sleep wear is personal preference and the hotels should have heating also.

Do you think it's a good idea to look for flight tickets during MATTA fair in March for trip to Hokkaido in mid June?  hmm.gif I'm afraid it might be too close to the flying dates that there will be no cheap tickets. BTW, how cheap is cheap for flights to Hokkaido?  hmm.gif

Use Skyscanner.

wow , this is quite good of a deal.

check who is their partnering telco in Japan, if it is one of the big boys. NTT Docomo, Softbank.
Coverage wont be a problem for sure if its them.

Oot, but the last few times I've been overseas (Thailand and Korea) i just got by using Digi internet passes. So much easier than fiddling with a new SIM card though i agree if there's a group, it's probably cheaper to share a portable WiFi.
