I don't think you can even get out of Malaysia with < 6 months validity. Why risk it?

Wahhh you're expected to wake up 5am or 6am daily while getting home pretty late. Think twice about your packed itinerary as after 1-2 days down the road you'll so worn out, you may not be able to wake up early and thus this may mess up your plan hmm.gif Suggest you reduce some activity and place the less important ones as 'backup' so in case if you're early/ on schedule, you can go ahead. If you're late then can skip those activities - but at least you did the ones in your priority list.

Sifu please help need your opinion on this

1. Going to Fuji Q and Hakone (Onsen and do all those Odakuwani, etc. trip) should I sleep at Hakone or just go back to Tokyo and the next day go back to enjoy? Pros going back is no need to bring luggage that's all lol

2. If going to Nikko, is it better to sleep there or how? I've read that it's a very big place but really unsure if should spend a night there. Yet again lazy to haul my big luggage prefer to make a base in Tokyo lol.
*
1. Stay 1 night if possible. You can leave luggage at coin locker and retrieve when you're back.

2. Recommend to stay a night there. The pass itself is not cheap so more worthwhile for you to stay a night since you're already there biggrin.gif and no, just pay a little for coin locker and chuck your big luggage there! Just pack enough for 2D1N in Nikko in a backpack or handcarry.

thread got too much info to filter through so i hope someone can guide me.

i'll be travelling to japan for 10 days in early nov. no itenary yet. but my main reason for going to japan is to head over to disneyland.

any other kid friendly places to recommend ? regardless tokyo or kyoto or hokkaido. i have 10 days. i saw in google maps there is a sea world beside disneyland. worth going ?
*
What do you mean by regardless of Tokyo/ Kyoto or Hokkaido? Where are you going exactly? You do know that all 3 are totally different places?

i have 10 days there before i board off to milan.
from the maps, i know its possible for me to spend 3 days in tokyo (if necessary) and 6 days in kyoto as it is only couple of hours away. i have not made any itenary yet as i'm still searching for interesting places which are meant for kids. baby friendly is optional.

it isnt exactly 3 diff places. its still not far off tokyo unlike okinawa. though i've not filtered my places of interests yet nor set a route, i'd like to spend more time at a place whereby its suitable for kids. the more places of interest for kids, the longer i can stay at that prefecture.
disneyland is a must. disneysea i will skip. the biggest most impressive aquaworld is in okinawa. but its only that as an attraction for my kid which makes it....not really worth going just for it.
sanrioland and skytree something something already added to my list.
*
No, of course it's possible to do Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka in 10 days but it's hectic especially when you're bringing kids along. It's even tiring for adults alone without having to bring kids around.

And it's because you mentioned Hokkaido as well, as though you're planning for 3 places within 10 days. Or that you don't really care whichever place, as long as Disneyland is there. Hokkaido is far north and you'll have to take a plane from Tokyo/ Osaka to get there.

You'll have to make it clear what's your plan and what you have in mind, coz otherwise suggestions will come from all different directions which may not be what you want/ need.

So instead of asking for suggestions , why not share your list of where you plan to go and see what others have to say/ comment?

* Prefer slow pace trip.
* Both me and my wife have visited Japan previously and have done Hakone Freepass.
* This is just a rough idea of where we will be during our Japan trip in Nov. Nothing is finalized yet except for the flight tickets.

Questions:
1) Is it worth getting Japan Rail Way Pass? If yes, should I go with a 14-day pass and which day should I start using it?
2) From Kyoto, can I take a train direct to Kawaguchiko or I must go through Hakone first?
3) Any other suggestions/recommendations? Should I switch things around a bit to make travel more convenient? Like maybe from Tokyo > Hakone/Kawaguchiko > Kyoto > Tokyo

Thank you for your time and I welcome any feedback notworthy.gif
*
I like your itinerary, it's relaxing and accommodating for children.

1. Yes, since you're going both Tokyo and Kyoto. However sacwoc has also mentioned it's worth checking the domestic flight price as sometimes it could be cheaper.
2. Kawaguchiko and Hakone are two different areas that is several hours apart.
3. It's not an issue, your itinerary seems fine. You've both visited Japan and know what to expect/ how to get around.

Day 3: Maybe you can bring your family to Asakusa then take a water bus from Asakusa to Odaiba. I'm sure your kids will love it biggrin.gif
http://www.gotokyo.org/en/tourists/info/access/access5.html

Day 16: Probably consider Ueno or Nakano area. I personally like Nakano because it has plenty to see and shop.

I'm planning for my first solo trip, first visit to Tokyo & first time planning for oversea trip as well  sweat.gif  mega_shok.gif

I just booked my flight impromptuly today without having an idea what to do in Tokyo for 9D8N, but I'd say I'd like cover some places in the cities & do some hikes hopefully to witness autumn foliage during this trip.  Haven't really sure what're the places worth to check out and where should be the right place to stay, don't even mention the transportation. Do you think something like this is possible?  unsure.gif

There is a recommended itinerary on Page 1 Post #1. You can use it as reference.

In terms of your Mt Fuji - what does it mean "hike from 5th to 6th station"? What is there @ 6th station? The climb is usually from 5th to 10th station if i'm not mistaken and you can only climb it in Summer (usually July). Or is this a hike via the Yoshida trail? hmm.gif

Good idea on Mt Takao, it's very beautiful and it'll be a refreshing hike. I recommend to take the chair lift as it's pretty fun.

Your itinerary is very concentrated in Shibuya and Shinjuku only. There's a lot of places you can visit.

Hi all,

I wanna ask if my schedule using Fuji Hakone Pass workable
My schedule as following:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

*
If i'm not mistaken, the pass is for 3 days. So for 3 days the transport and some attractions are covered, so doesn't matter how you go about it. However rides like the cruise (in Hakone), you can only ride it once and you'll still need to pay to go in Museums but with a discounted rate with the pass.

Thanks for your feedback too, 3 days are quite limited, need to choose which attractions you want or skip
what i am worrying now on the bus schedule on Fuji & Hakone, seems take quite some time to travel around
*
No problem, I know what you mean. I'm having the same dilemma but friends and I have agreed to do Fuji-Q Highland, so there's even less time for us to go around sweat.gif

Additionally, if the ryokan/ hotel you're staying doesn't have an onsen, you can go to a bath house for a visit (whichever near your accommodation). Just pay a fee, go in and enjoy onsen for an hour or two (with Mt Fuji view) and then balik. This was recommended by another Mod, after I told him my Hotel/ inn's onsen doesn't have Mt Fuji view. The one he went was Yurari, but from where I stay, Benifuji is nearer so I'll go to that one instead.

When it comes to custard puff, the ones in Japan is the best I've ever had. During Sakura season there'll be a lot of limited edition desserts and bread. Starbucks even had Sakura Latte the last time I went in spring. One of the shop also had sakura ice cream.

Definitely worth trying as you'll only get these when they're in season.

Really ? This trip more to shopping rather than sight seeing .. perhaps would like to drop by Mount Fuji . Possible ? And the cost ?

Can roughly estimate if only walk around in Tokyo transportation cost ? For 2 person ..

*
1. Google either Hakone or Kawaguchiko. Look up these 2 places where you can see Mt. Fuji. Do more research and you'll find out the cost. Come back and feel free to check with forumers here if you still need help after that.

2. It depends on your itinerary and how many places you will cover in a week. If you're at 1-2 areas for most of the day and rarely do side trips, then your transport cost will not be high. Plan your itinerary and you can look up the ticket cost of each trip in Google Map or Hyperdia site/ app.

We're not FOREX experts, no one can foresee the trend. If it's good, just change some and keep. When one gets too greedy, they will end up losing money, unless extremely lucky.

#1. Are you asking about the SIM you plan to buy? I have no idea because I don't go for expensive ones when there's cheaper and better alternatives.
#2. If you're referring to other option of SIM, then like I said, check page #1 post #1. Everything is there.

yes. I am referring to the page 1 information. Here. i paste it here.

"9. Traveling with Internet!
- Travel Sim Option 1 https://t.iijmio.jp/en/index.html *can be purchased from JTB Malaysia before your trip*

Travel sim Option 2 (3G/4G only, no calls) Hello1010: https://hello1010.my/country/asia/japan.html
Their SIM comes in 3 sizes: Standard, Nano and Micro SIM. You get all 3 and just use whichever applicable for your phone. "

open the link, https://t.iijmio.jp/en/shop/index.html
and it shows JTB Malaysia link.
Hope I am not mistaken.

Option #1 was contributed by another user/ mod. Personally have not used them, probably someone else can comment.

Option #2 I've bought from them a couple of times. They will courier to you directly at RM6 fee in Peninsular but if your total purchase >RM100, the delivery is FOC (also for Peninsular). It's more convenient for them to deliver straight to you.

not yet finalized. still in planning process. but basically is 8 days, tokyo - osaka. Btw. i've just open the fb link on this option:

Travel sim Option 2 (3G/4G only, no calls) Hello1010: https://hello1010.my/country/asia/japan.html

turns out in Japan 3G cannot connect to their network. Minimum 4G. Is that true? both our phones are only 3G phones. Quite old already.  hmm.gif  hmm.gif  doh.gif
*
For 8 days only will suggest you stick to 1 place. If you're going to do 3-4 days in Tokyo, it's rush and you won't get to enjoy much. You'll also need to get the JR pass for shinkansen which will easily cost you few hundred ringgit.

Not sure about 3G. When I used it last year it was still okay (phone auto change mode 4G/3G) so i did not have any problem. Drop them a message or give the office a call.
