Hmmm but I think I've seen Japanese girls with short pants in temples. Is it frowned upon? And I thought there's no restriction in terms of this. Eg. Thailand is very strict and you'll have to wear a sarung or something to cover legs if one wears anything above the knee.
I may have missed but you're going to Kawaguchikp straight from Narita? 2 bags... if 2nd bag is a hand carry bag, you can put the hand carry inside the suitcase and just bring '1 luggage'.

Optionally what I plan to do, which will cost a lot, is to drop my baggage in Yamato counter in Yokohama and get to them deliver it to Shinjuku station. Planning to contact the baggage storage counter in Shinjuku to arrange for them to receive and store my luggage until I arrive to collect it 1 day later.
Just saw this. Tour as in you followed tour? That's nice, then it's easy to move around. I'll be going Fuji 5 Lakes alone and I think I'll only be able to make it to Lake Yamanaka and Kawaguchi. I have done Owakudani, Hakone Shrine and Cruise in one of my previous trip. No to Gotemba coz we're not really keen on shopping

itinery still in planning. just wondering is it feasible to take the train (using JR PASS) from kyoto( planning to stay in kyoto) to osaka in the afternoon and come back to kyoto at night? i checked google map and its says it take 1hour29min per trip but here i see some people mention it only takes 30minutes.

I saw that they have 2,000 yen pass which includes the return bus ride and entrance ticket. However I also read on their site that if the bloom almost end, the entry fee might be waived off.

I'm going 3rd week of May, so hopefully it's still good.

Ahhhh 21st could be early. I think early May will be just nice, since sakura was an early bloom. But I wanted to avoid crowd and peak (if anything, big crowds of people irk me the most) so opted for non-peak.

Indeed, it did say they purposely have a bus to cater for the festival. One more thing, they said there are coin lockers in the Kawaguchiko station, however another person said the lockers are full and it's so bad that sometimes people just dump the bags on top of the lockers and go off. When they come back, the bags are still there. No doubt, usually nobody will take. But did you see this situation at the station?

meaning its doable. plan to stay in kyoto and commute to osaka via train that way. Dont really enjoy switching hotel all the time.

thanks for the heads up. If like dat meaning we might be ending our daily tour early and sleep early? what about night life? anyway, suits me and me wife since we're both early bird type. But trains runs until midnight right? As long as we try to catch the train around 9pm or 10pm back to kyoto should be safe already then?

not yet complete. but this is the my current list. yes. i place fushimi inari and arashiyama both early morning trips so we're fresh and strong. walking wise, not a problem for me but me wife not as tough as me. haha. so i rather we take these 2 place slowly early in the morning. And still having headache where to slot in himeji. First time to japan. so quite worried about the train schedule. what if its not avaiable.

Early morning, goto Tokyo Station, take Hokuriku Shinkansen to Toyama Station. From Toyama Station take bus to Shirakawago (must catch the 1200pm or 1205pm bus depending on that month’s schedule latest).
Should buy the bus ticket online or buy on the spot???

haha. kinda worried also about our leg power. Basically we place our main objectives early in the morning like Tsukiji / Asakusa / Arashiyama / Fushimi Inari so we can have ample of times to enjoy it. The rest of the day might even adjust according to our stamina level. 

Initially plan to book our hotel in kyoto but after reading here, i think its more feasible to stay in osaka. Still need to slot in himeji-jo

Yes yes we fly in Tokyo and out Osaka. Booked it before I had a chance to come here have a look see. Shirakawago i already booked hotel at Shirakawago-yu already.

Thanks for the grouping area tips in tokyo. Its just that we would like to concentrate on the place we want to go first - Tsukiji / Asakusa / Arashiyama / Fushimi Inari. And after that only go for other places.

oh the ICOCA can keep 10 years? dang... should have kept it.

When return for refund you'll get charged certain amount as service/processing fee. then the next time get another card will get charge another time.

Yeah haha. That's what I did in 2015. Got the regular ICOCA back then and used it up to minimise the handling charge. This time round I bought the Astroboy ICOCA so I kept the card.
