Yes,
Process of rent car at Japan are super easy because staff you guide you step by step and explain insurance detail.

Just make sure you check the car properlly, see any dent or not and take picture.Take picture of car fuel also, when return also put same amount.

Make sure tyre are perfect or acceptable range too
*
Please apply the International Driving Permit from JPJ. Just bring 1 passport size & Rm150 will do. The IDP is valid for 1 year upon application.

You can skip the car inspection if you op for full CWD (Collision Damage Waiver). Normally i get full CWD due to hussle free

Nice, you've got enough time to cover Fuji 5 Lakes.

As for the empty days - depends on what you want to do. Consider Asakusa, Ueno, Tokyo Tower, Ginza, Akihabara etc which is not in your list. Suggest you do up more research and see what interests you.

Thanks. Some district name will help. I will focus on east, south, north, west rather than specific attraction.

Wake up having a breakfast then only think where to go smile.gif

CWD is like car insurance when you rent the car. You can choose not to buy, buy the basic coverage or buy the full coverage depends on your budget.

If any Collision or Damage to the car, the CWD will cover for it. You can choose to op out and bare the own risk. It is up to personal preference

Oh. But it is better to take the cwd right? Since we are not familiar with the road, traffic, rules and regulations there.

Actually I m more concern about knocking down a guy than the car.

hmmm... interesting... do you have any car rental recommendation?
i saw that a Toyota Yaris equivalent comes out cheaper than taking JR 7 day Hokkaido pass!
that's going to save me quite a lot of train rides!
*
And it’s worth it to get the toll pass for tourist. Saves you a lot coz toll charges are extraordinarily high. But it’s worth it just to see how Japanese build their expressway. Almost arrow straight even when going through mountainous terrain. And you’ll hardly feel the elevation too! In Hokkaido at least.

Hi all,

How strict are hotels with # of guest bookings? I have made bookings through OTA for 1 adult but for a sizable room as I'll be travelling with my wife i.e. (Twin Room or Double Room).

Hotels booked:
1. Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku
2. JR Kyushu Blossom Shinjuku

I read that Japan charges based on # of guest instead of hotel room. Though I'm not trying to squeeze 2 person into a single-bed room, will this be an issue? Any experiences to share?

Are you asking our blessing for your plan to defraud the hotels by paying for 1 guest but trying to sneak in two? doh.gif

It is really up to personal preference. some people will tell you, "my driving skill so good why waste money to buy? you look down on me? vmad.gif ".
I can only share my car rental experienced and you have to decide yourself.

But one thing for sure, International Driving License is a must to apply from JPJ.
If some one telling you no need because the staff doesn't check, just ignore them. The staff doesn't check and do you have IDP to rent a car is different thing.
If they check and you don't have it, then your whole trip is ruined.

Just send an email to the hotels and tell them honestly

Yes, some Japan hotels/ryokans charges on per pax basis especially when it included meals.

Even without meals, I can also notice that some hotels do charge lower rates for single-traveller vs. 2-travellers, even though the room is the same (double or twin).

So again, best checked with the hotel management

you said you book for 1 adult but twin room or double room? aren't that for 2 pax? or you're staying in a dorm with 2 beds?

So I have booked the below:

Occupancy - 1 Adult
Room Type - Twin Bed

Yes, so it is a little strange in the sense that you book for 1 Adult, but get a room with 2 beds. If you price the same twin-room for 2 Adults then the price goes up, hence I booked it as 1 Adult.

These bookings have no meals or breakfast

And i believe the Hotel has a T&C that says they have the right to change your room without your notification in the event it's running at full occupancy. So since you're paying for 1pax, don't be too surprised when you arrive to find that they've changed it to Single Bed. Manage your expectation if you're not being honest about having 2 guests staying in the room for 1 rolleyes.gif unless the Hotel states they're selling by room, regardless of number of pax.

This is already clearly trying to game their system and circumvent the hotel policy

So don't be surprise if they also came down strict on your bookings when you checked in

Japan is mostly about per person rather than per room. As someone mention, if they found out you have another person with you they reserve the right to charge you extra. Will they find out? If they have a bit lobby most probably not. Last time I use to saty at ANA for business and company book per person. Arrive there with wife I told them I have one more person and they say no issue. Depends on luck and also who you negotiate with.

So my suspicion was correct, you ARE trying to cheat the hotel. For this sort of hotel that clearly charges extra for 2pax in the same room, if both of you turn up at the front desk you will likely be charged for your 2nd guest.

If you insist on going along with this penipu scammer arrangement anyway, then during check in / check out, you go to the front desk alone and ask your wife hide somewhere else in the lobby or outside the hotel first lo.

Note that many business hotels have really small lobby areas and the guest lifts may even be in full view of the front desk.

In this case, either email the hotel or just cancel the booking if there is FULL REFUND policy. Then book again biggrin.gif Make sure there are efficient room left.
