I've been looking over hyperdia and google map for the train routes in japan. Just to double confirm my findings: rclxub.gif

When you guys mention Hokuriku Shinkansen, you are referring to the train line / train track right? And the actual train to take is actually called

1. SHINKANSEN KAGAYAKI 521
2. SHINKANSEN HAKUTAKA 555

And do we actually have to make a reservation for our seats from our trip from tokyo to toyama? Or we can just go to the station on the day of the departure and use our Hokuriku Arch Pass to board the train to toyama? notworthy.gif

I did notice in Hyperdia for reservation price is lower than stated for reservation. But if we are using the JR PASS (the hokuriku arch pass), we can overlook the price right?

the name is different because of its services. Depending whether it is Limited Express or Express, the train will skip some of the stations along the way. Limited express skips most of the station, which mean you will reach your destination faster.

u can prebook the seats and ticket once you have the pass. just go to any midori-no-guchi (green window) to make your reservation.

JR pass already inclusive of seat reservation price. you dont have to pay extra for that.

Kagayaki is the fastest (less 20min? travel time) because of fewer stations. Hakutaka is the slower 1.

Normal procedure i think you go to the JR Ticket office and reserve a seat. Then they will issue the Shinkansen ticket for you. It’s not just show pass and can board it, even for non-reserved seating

yaya. if according to hyperdia, kagayaki is faster. okie. will made a point to go there make reservation first. cool2.gif

No worries hahaha it works like Touch N Go. If I recall correctly, the expiration is 10 years. I'm sure you'll be back again before 10 years  laugh.gif

Previously i got posted my itinery for my trip to Japan.
And really many thanks for the input.

Now I'm looking over the trains trips.
Seems like its more convenient to travel around in metro (subways) and monorail mostly when we are inside tokyo, osaka and kyoto. And even between Kyoto and Osaka its more convenient and fast using subways? I hope I am not mistaken.

Previously, some member introduced Hokuriku Arch Pass to me. 24000 yen per pax X 2 = 48000 yen.

I've calculated my trip from Tokyo to Toyama (Shirakawago) to Osaka which is around 44000 yen already. And once i've reach Osaka, that is the end of the usage for the pass right?

Here's my breakdown for the main city travel:
Early morning, goto Tokyo Station, take Hokuriku Shinkansen to Toyama Station. (around 8am) ¥ 12,530 X 2 ¥25,060

Shirakawago -> Kanazawa Station East Gate ¥1850 X 2 ¥ 3700
Walk to Kanazawa Station JR take LTD. EXP THUNDERBIRD 28 / 32 to Osaka ¥7650 X 2 ¥15302

Total: ¥44062

From my own data here, seems like its just easier to get a PASMO card and buy the train tickets for the JR trains. Please correct me if i am wrong.

roaming actually will depend on which host network u roam on in Japan. for digi roaming passes to work, u need to roam on Docomo which is the largest telco in JP.

anyway, all JP telco company network quality is very good. so don't need to worry actually.

thanks. just roaming might seems cheaper to me. RM25 2gb for 3 days. with 30min talktime. Meaning 10 days in japan i only need to buy this package 3 times.

Ideal path for shirakawa would be from Nagoya right?

Just went recently last month. FYI, jsut to share my exeperience, my initial plan is to head for Shirakawa from Tokyo via shinkansen to Toyama. But we miss the 9am shinkansen from tokyo station to toyama. And that makes us failed to ride the last bus to Toyama at 12pm++. Luckily after googling, found out Kanazawa has more options (more buses going to shirakawa). So during the shinkansen ride, we just ride pass Toyama straight to Kanazawa. From Kanazawa, there's many scheduled bus to Shirakawa. Hope this helps. Btw, we used the Hokuriku Arch Pass for the trip. Quite convenient.

hope this piece of information helps.
