try google all location you planing to go, calculate the cost of the transport, then you will know 7/14 days rail pass, or even no need rail pass is suitable for you

please take note rail pass cannot take all of the bullet train

my advice
osaka - kyoto = no need pass (very near, ticket is cheap)
kyoto - tokyo = 14650 yen
tokyo <-> hakone = hakone pass, cannot use japan rail pass (correct me if i wrong with this)

total only 15k yen in your JR train expenses, 7 days pass already cost you 38k yen??

otherwise you are going many place, example Kobe, Himeji, Nara, Nagoya, then you may buy rail pass.

buy jor KUL - FUK, RM382 for return flight on july

i found that price too, but that time i in jeju, otherwise japan is my first choice

i go with my wife, from kul to fuk, only buy 20kg
from fuk back to kl, i buy 20kg x 2 = 40kg, a lot of thing to buy, haha, but high chance will upgrade to 25kg, only RM5 different

total RM1094 (flight + luggage) for 2 person, one person only around RM550
i believe the price quite cheap already

july first week
worry august & sep is typhoon season, but many event during these 2 months

my main point is eat & shopping, haha, onsen is famous, will visit onsen too
so sad Kumamoto Castle is under repair, need wait 20 years to finish
