Won't happen due to cross-site scripting concerns.
If you like a particular flash widget, you can suggest it and we'll add it if it comes from a trusted source (subject to approval on a case-by-case basis). |

QUOTE(Diligent Sloth @ Apr 27 2007, 02:01 AM) Although having a flash object within the forum is actually cool, but having a flash stuff for signature is not that really practical. We couldn't get to know the real filesize of the flash file since a flash file could inlude another flash file and so on. |

Flash files will cause the forum to load very slow and if it is in the siggy, those spammerz with a flash siggy will cause 56k users to suffer kao kao...
We have Broadband but you see, when TMNuts is behaving like nuts, the only site we can come is LYN since it loads so fast... |

QUOTE(wKkaY @ Apr 27 2007, 01:48 AM) Yes, there's the issue of the flash files being an annoyance, large to download, etc etc. But this reason above is the deal killer - it's trivial to write swfs that steal cookies. If you're allowed to embed any swf you like, we (or at least those who have the flash player installed) will all be open to this attack. |

Yea,If you like a particular flash widget, you can suggest it and we'll add it if it comes from a trusted source (subject to approval on a case-by-case basis). Gotta agree with you! Nowadays, it is not safe to allow flash signatures to be used in forums as some script kiddies might take this opportunity to implement their very own 'hijacking' or 'annoyance' script within the flash file and thus, showing off their evil side. Cookie session hijacking, page redirection, annoying popups, auto-logout and so forth are one of the example scripts that could be executed when a person is viewing a topic which contains a flash file located in a user's signature! |

Disagree with this idea. Very dangerous as all sorts of Vulnerabilities exist. MS Patched on one Vulnerability, imagine if Those with Flash Player visited LYN that is full of swf's at that time? Disaster.
And on the 56k thingy. I am on 56k, Going through certain subforums is already a pain (especially those with a lot of pictures), introducing swf is going to make it more than worse. Cheers! |

Barring the cross-scripting, assuming the flash files are smaller than the allowed limit, I don't see why that'd affect you And on the 56k thingy. As it is animated GIFs serves its purpose well, I really don't see a point of having a flash signature.

While I believe it's attractive and more interactive things could be added. That's actually a point of having flash signature. Yet, no forums really implement such thing like reasons above. |

It will make the forum slower and vurnurble to attack. Thus I don't agree. And what's wrong with using only static or gif images? if you're creative enough, you should be able to make a good one without resorting to using swf.

Yet, no forums really implement such thing like reasons above. But one should remember that you cannot check where a link leads to in Flash. What if, if someone do something dirty?Yes I do agree that it'll be more interactive with flash, but so far demand for it is still low, hence my point that I find it still not necessary. Erm, under certain rules, the forum loading issue should be fine, the only thing is the safety precaution. Just my 2 cents. |

I could still have a flash tag if I wanted to lol, just parse a known extension on my webserver as php or something and include my swf .. presto~ ..
But I won't :"P |
