Normal gain antenna have more vertical coverage, but less horizontal coverage.
High gain antenna have less vertical coverage, but have more horizontal coverage, hence more "range".

Alongside your USB WiFi receiver, your WiFi router matters too.
Your router and your USB receiver placement position, antenna angle, WiFi channel used, surrounding interference, indoor building and furniture and etc will affect your WiFi signal strength.

Last time when I pay, my browser went blank with alipay address on the address bar, not continuing.
So I took risk to refresh the page, and luckily it continue smoothly.
