I just received a used lens. notice some slight fungus at the side of the front element. doesn't seem to affect the photos. I can return it, but it's not easy to find this particular lens. I wonder if I get those dry box with "rechargeable silica gel humidifier", will it stop the fungus from growing ? cause I really like this lens.

any help is greatly appreciated

dry box will stop fungus from growing, but sadly the fungus will stay there sad.gif

its worth to invest in a proper drybox since they last quite long imo.

Silica gels don't last that long. Not in Malaysia.
So do keep an eye on it. If the humidity goes up, it'll start growing again.

I got a drybox because I was facing the same problem as you did. To my experience, it seems didn't help much to prevent the fungus from growing even if I leave it in drybox. End up, I gave the lenses away to a friend for free. By the way, which lens is this that you really like ? hmm.gif

if the fungus is not that bad you can get it cleaned without any side effects. I bought a used lumix lens and found slight fungus. I sent it to camcare at sungai besi which is the official service center. They only charge RM80 to clean it and only took 2 days. Once cleaned, use the drybox to prevent any future growth.

Why still got fungus even when you use a dry box?

Because I got the drybox AFTER fungus already grew in the lens. Some said, keeping a fungus infested lens in a drybox can at least stop the spread/growth....which somehow doesnt seems true in my case.

i had an experience of fungus-ed classic lens.

i ask a reputable collector, he mentioned even with drybox, fungus only become dormant, it wont kill it as the spore of the fungus already there.
