QUOTE(Room237 @ Dec 12 2017, 11:19 PM) Reheating you mean? Both work differently. I personally prefer microwave. More flexible in usage. Heck I even brew my drink using it if there's no hot water around. An oven has heating element which heats the air, thus hot air heat the food. A microwave as the name suggest uses wave(radio wave iinm) to heat certain elements(I'm sure it's water molecule but research by yourself to make sure and learn more) by exciting the molecules hence producing kinetic energy, thus heat the food which has the elements in it. As for microwave, METAL elements are big no(unless you wanna see sparks coming from inside of your microwave oven). ADDED: As for health reason, I don't really have a thought about it. Is there any? QUOTE(Room237 @ Dec 13 2017, 12:57 AM) Yeah ive read quite a few research stating heating your food thru microwave could actually kill the nutrients in the food thats why it's faster process than the slower electric oven. The reason it's faster because of the way it works which is significantly faster process than conventional microwave. The wave excites from the molecular structure of the matter(that's why people said microwave cooks things from inside) which increase the kinetic energy of those little guys to go running and bumping into each other thus generating heat.Conventional oven has heating element that heats the air, from hot air heats are gradually transferred to the matter which is food in this case. Well the kinetic energy generated by exciting the molecules which produced the heats that eventually cook/boil the food are a lot. Nutrients have their own limit on how much heat they can take before depleted. Or maybe the exciting water molecules jumping all around the matter could potentially disrupt the nutrient components? Perhaps. Take vitamin C for example. Expose them to light? Gone. Soak them in water? Freely leach into the water. Oxidation will do take care of them too. But I personally doubt it'll do any harm as we consume microwaved products. Less nutrients? Maybe. Any method of preparing the food surely will deplete some of the nutrients content(yes, even the electric oven!). I doubt one could retain 100% of the good things from them the moment we pick it out of the sea and off the tree/soil. Point is, we probably don't eat enough of them(nutrients) regardless of the way we prepare the meal. Microwave on the other hand gives the advantage of faster time in preparing the food than conventional, electric oven and probably save more on electric too! Not to mention you can cook many things with it. One thing I'm sure of, it is a modern technology to ease our lifestyle no doubt about it. ADDED: Heck you just bring out the student in me. Kinda learnt about microwave back then. This post has been edited by UnknownH: Dec 13 2017, 04:59 AM |
