Not necessarily. You can still produce vibrant HDR using JPEGs. It's just that some (if not most) photographers prefer to shoot in RAW format (including me).

Sametime replied. Cool..anyway, you can get a decent HDR with 3 different exposure (2 or 1 stop) JPEGs. I read somewhere, you can get more detailed HDR with 5 JPEGs/RAWs. 2 stop each is even better.
